What to expect from a 7 week scan?

According to my lmp I'm 6 weeks pregnant today, but I think I'm a few days less than that because I'm pretty sure I ovulated late when I conceived.

I've been feeling very anxious about this pregnancy due to a previous loss so I'm eager to find out everything's ok.

A place close to where I live offers private scans from 7 weeks for £55 which is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
I was thinking of going there in two weeks when I predict I'll be between 7 and 8 weeks but I'm just wondering what to expect? I've read lots of stories of people having early scans, and they're a lot less far in the pregnancy than expected which makes them worry more and causes a lot of anxiety which in most cases is unnecessary because everything is fine they're just out with their dates.
Anyway, I'm just wondering, what should I expect to see from a 7 week scan? Or should I hold on a further week or two to see more? I just want to see a nice strong heartbeat more than anything. Seeing something that resembles a baby would be nice too, but even if it's just a blob with a heartbeat id feel much better than I do now.

Any advice would be appreciated!
TIA

I had one just before 8 weeks and I saw a bean with a heartbeat. It was pretty cool and in my eyes, worth the money :) they will also be able to tell you how many embryos there are. I am glad I had mine.

Firstly, I hope this pregnancy works out well for you

I had a scan at 9wks due to some issues and I could see a teeny baby with little arms waving around, it was quite amazing! I think that first and some subsequent ones my Dr did an internal scan as they are a lot clearer than the traditional one. If wait another couple of weeks if you can bear too and go about 9/10 weeks.

Saw 2 heartbeats at 6 weeks.

Wow I didn't think babies had arms at 9 weeks, at 6 weeks mine was a flashing dot on the screen.

In theory, you should see the heartbeat. But I would wait until 8 weeks at least - like you say, I also know people who went early and were told that the pregnancy has not progressed as expected and they will probably have a mc. But all turned out well - so too early scan just caused a lot of unnecessary worry.

This was mine at 8+3 saw the heartbeat and ben wriggling. Apologies for the diagram this was for my DH's parents :D

My DD looked like a bit like a jelly baby at a reassurance scan at 7 weeks, and I could clearly see the heartbeat. I had another at 9 weeks (following a bleed) and it was amazing how much development there had been.

If you've had a mc you can ask for a reassurance scan from the GP or EPU.

That's my early private scan dated 7+4 and we heard the heartbeat :)

Ps. This was a zoomed in shot

madgiebean · 17/04/2015 16:58

thanks guys for your responses, I'm going to try and hold out as long as possible but I doubt I'll get past 8 weeks without wanting a scan haha.
Those scan pictures are getting me so excited to see my little bean!

I think a NHS scan would give you far more information and reassurance than a private one. £55 sounds very cheap to me. Have you spoken with your GP to see if that's possible?

there is some more info here about private scans and that mentions cost between £100 and £150. I would be cautious with the £55 people OP.

6 weeks later and my bean is now a developed baby ( saw him/her todayGrin

applecore0317 · 17/04/2015 17:05

northernlurker mine was £50, prices differ area to area. The lady that did mine also does scans for the hospital, it was a lovely experience and she took her time and went into lots of detail in both my early scan and my sexing scan

lexyloub · 17/04/2015 17:11

Hang out as long as you can I went at what I thought was 9 weeks turned out I was 7+2 saw a tiny bean with a flickering heartbeat. Had I gone when I thought was 7 weeks it would've been to early for a heartbeat so would've been worried. Good luck with your scan

madgiebean · 17/04/2015 17:17

northernlurker i'll speak to my GP about it see what he says before i go privately. I dont mind what i do as long as i have peace of mind!

MorgansMummy congratulations! i love how much he/she looks like a real baby now! I wish i could fast forward 6 weeks so i could see mine!

It will fly by, hang on in there Flowers

aletea · 17/04/2015 21:08

I've booked in for 8 weeks as I couldn't stand it if I got there at 7 weeks and there was no heartbeat and I had to wait to hear more news. Much more likely at 8 weeks. Even though it will mean DH will miss it :/
