Swollen ankles at 11 weeks!

Hiya! I'm 11 weeks today I am overweight (obese) and am pregnant with twins. My ankles only ever swell when I fly (and not every time) . I've felt bloated all day and noticed when I got home my ankles are swollen!

I've googled but can't find anything really relating to early pregnancy just a few anecdotal threads of other people saying it was probably just the extra fluid... Anyone had this? Think I should ring the Dr/midwife?

Has it gone down this morning?

But, Yes, phone your midwife.

11 weeks is early to have swelling with no history of it imo

Could just be the heat mind you!
Or if you on feet all day - that never helps

But make sure you get feet up, do some ankle exercises (rotate them both ways - helps shift fluid)
Are you drinking enough? Sometimes body clings on to fluid if not getting enough in.

I'm not midwife/Dr so it's not my area of expertise but it won't do any harm to phone your midwife, DON'T USE DR GOOGLE.

I've been getting swollen ankles if I'm on my feet too long from 12 weeks. Drink more and stick them up at the end of the day

Most likely heat, being on your feet, not drinking enough clear fluids (avoid fizzy drinks) plus it being a twin pregnancy (and your weight may play a part-sorry). BUT still call the midwife/gp to double check your blood pressure and rule out any other causes. If you're getting this now, with a lot more weight and a lot more of the summer, to come you might need to look at making some adjustments now just to make it bearable. I'm 35 weeks with twins and mine onlystarted getting swollen the last couple of weeks but that was enough to make me think I'm glad I'm not going to be pregnant for much more of the summer.

i'm 15 weeks, my bmi is 32 and my ankles are a bit puffy at the end of a day at work, even though i am only sitting at a desk. gutting as my legs are my only skinny bit, stupid apple shape!

but they seem fine at the weekends. however, they've always gone down again the following morning, and i have a home blood pressure monitor which shows BP is about 108/61 on average, so i'm not worrying too much at this stage.

if yours are permanently swollen and you haven't had your BP checked in a few weeks, i'd call your MW or doctor just to be sure, but hopefully it's nothing to worry about.

Thanks Ladies - I'm seeing MW on Tuesday so will bring it up then. I am trying to drink plenty as otherwise I get properly thirsty but can always do better! They were down this morning but are inflating again already. Hopeful that a good rest at the weekend will help!

this sounds funny but - do you wear socks during the day? i often find that my ankles stay nice and bambi-like with tights or bare legs, but the elastic at the top of socks gives me a niiiiiiice indent and puffiness on both sides of it!
