20 week scan couldn't check heart

I've just had my 20 week scan and they said the baby was lying in an awkward position and so they couldn't check the heart properly. I've got to go back in a couple of weeks, has this happened to anyone else? I'm worried sick now.

I had this! Please don't worry! I had a trainee sonographer at 19 week scan who got all measurements and even told us the sex but couldn't see the 3 views of the heart she needed as he had his chin to chest and both arms crossed over his chest- despite moving loads wouldn't come out of this position! Had me lie on my left side then right then tipped the bed so my feet were in the air but couldn't see- even the proper sonographer couldn't see! So I had to go back last week at 22 weeks- so sonographer took a while to tell me heart was all fine as we're using a new machine and I started to worry that they hadnt been truthful with the reason for needing repeat scan but all was fine! Was so nice to have a repeat scan too as it was amazing how much he'd grown in 3 weeks and was lovely to see him moving as I could feel it which I couldn't at 19 weeks! Don't worry I'm sure will all be fine!

Just had this myself, could check the heart or face profile at the 20 wks so went back last week at almost 24 and all was fine.
Getting to go and have another look at baby that we wouldn't normally have got was great and the scan pictures at almost 24wks compared to DD1's were so much clearer with really fine details of her face.

See it as a positive to get another view before the birth as all being weel with the rest of the pregnancy you will not get another scan.

I had my 20 wk scan on Monday and I'm going back tomorrow as they couldn't see back or face.
I really wouldn't worry and be happy they are being thorough!

This happened to be with both of my children, my first was waving his legs about showing his willy but had his arms tightly crossed over his heart, we laughed at how he was happy to show off that he was a boy but not willing to let the sonographer do the job at hand!

It was lovely to see them again a week or 2 later, they both had perfect hearts once the sonographer managed to get a good look at them!

This happened to me at my 20wk scan as baby was lying on stomache so they couldn't measure/check heart. Everything else was okay though. They scheduled me for a 24wk scan to check the heart & dopplers, & again baby was lying in a awkward position, but then baby turned the last second so she was able to check. All was okay though. Although I did worry those 4wks until the second scan, but I think I shouldn't have really as its so common & plus everything else wa fine. Good luck x

We went to our 20 week scan and the baby looked straight at us the whole time as well as was in a position where the tech could not view the heart the way she needed. She made sure to tell us not to worry just that we need to come back to get a better view .
