Hi all, I'm 9 weeks pregnant and start work tomorrow for a new job. (9-5 classic office job)

I was offered this job 10/11 weeks ago before I knew/before I was pregnant, but now I am seeing as it took so bloody long with paperwork ect to start the job.

I'm suffering with morning sickness and think I may have to run to the toilets a few times a day Blush

Thing is, do I tell them I'm pregnant? 'Oh hi, it's my first day, by the way, I'm pregnant!' Confused It could look really bad, and I didn't want to tell anybody until I'm 12 weeks.

I don't think I can be let go because I'm pregnant? I will sign my job contract tomorrow. Shall I wait to sign and then say?

I'd feel exactly the same! Although really, when you think about it, it couldn't be helped, you didn't know. And even if you did know, pregnant women need jobs too! I would wait to sign the contract though, yes. And see how you get on with the sickness, if you can wait a little while that might be good as they will warm to you and you'll probably find it easier to tell them. But essentially it's illegal for them to discriminate against you so they'll probably be very aware that they have to tread carefully! Good luck with it I'm sure you'll be fine :-)

Thank you very much, that's what I will do Smile

I started my new job in October & got pregnant in the December. My employer has been v good. As plonkie says, they have to be careful not to discriminate against pregnant women. You may need to tell them sooner than 12 weeks that you get paid time off for midwife appointments & scans.
