Drinking?

I was just wondering if people are having the odd alcoholic drink in pregnancy? I had the very odd small glass of wine early in 2nd trimester but haven't for a while....toying with the idea of a glass on holiday though!

Nolim · 12/04/2015 12:46

No.

Zahrah5 · 12/04/2015 12:49

No way, and dont miss it all. Its only for 9 months and not for forever.

SueV14 · 12/04/2015 12:50

Zero alc policy here.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 12/04/2015 12:55

No and I hope I stay off it after giving birth

Elledouble · 12/04/2015 12:57

I haven't been really (have had a small drink probably about five times during my pregnancy, and I'm 38 weeks). Nothing wrong with it if you want to, I just prefer not to.

YouMakeMyHeartSmile · 12/04/2015 13:29

I've had the odd glass of champagne at weddings, probably 3 over my pregnancy. I'm going to Spain on Monday for 2 weeks, I might have a glass of wine if I fancy one but will see how it goes. Up to you!

newbian · 12/04/2015 13:46

I'm not. Personally I prefer two (or three!) glasses of wine at a time so I don't see the appeal of one here or there during pregnancy. It can wait.

willnotbetamed · 12/04/2015 13:49

I have had the odd small glass of wine. We had a few birthdays and things - times when I really wanted to join in and raise a glass. This is my third pregnancy - I think I have been slightly more relaxed about food and drink each time! In my second pregnancy, I didn't know I was pregnant for quite a while, but I never fancied more than a few sips of wine - I think your body is quite good at regulating, if you let it. But maybe that doesn't work with everything.

I haven't had anything, its a personal choice, however at my first midwife appointment she told me that a scan was done on a woman whilst she was drinking a glass of wine and the babies movements changed and heart rate was faster, it stuck with me.

minijoeyjojo · 12/04/2015 14:23

I've had a small glass now and again - usually when out having a nice meal. I've read up about it quite a bit and there are no (good) studies that show that one or two glasses a week cause any problems.

I wonder if the baby's heart rate and movements change because of all the sugar in wine?

Koalafications · 12/04/2015 14:26

No, I haven't had any.

I'm a bit paranoid about this kind of thing though and won't even have an alcohol free cider as it say max 0.05% vol on the back.

applecore0317 · 12/04/2015 14:56

There was a documentary on a couple of months back called 'exposure, drinking in pregnancy' it covers the more extreme side of drinking but also those that have one to two units a week, I found it interesting, but again its personal choice

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/04/2015 15:05

None at all for me. I drank quite a lot pre pregnancy, wine most nights in fact. Bit of a bad habit. Haven't touched a drop since bfp. I can't see the point of 'one small glass' but that probably says something about my relationship with alcohol!

Rebecca1608 · 12/04/2015 15:10

I had 1 glass of bucks fizz Christmas day and in Feb I went away for the weekend with OH and had a pint of shandy. That's it. I have no other occasions or plans to go away So won't be drinking for the rest of my pregnancy. Only 7+ weeks to go then I'll definitely enjoy a couple of cold ciders.

crazycatlady82 · 12/04/2015 16:31

I watched the itv programme and ended up feeling I shouldn't have had my 6 sips of wine in my first trimester!

I then took a step back, thought about it logically and decided that on my wedding anniversary I would allow myself 50mls of champagne, and when I attend my friend's wedding again I will have 50mls of champagne and that will be all.

I am generally in the camp of wanting 2-3 glasses of wine not just the one, so I may not bother at all, even at the 2 aforementioned special events.

My husband has joked he will bring a mini bottle of champagne to the ward for me as a refreshment after the birth! Haha!!!

I was a complete wino prior to pregnancy. This has been a steep learning curve!

theendoftheendoftheend · 12/04/2015 16:41

Yes I had a can of Mackeson's last night it was bloomin lovely!

dinodiva · 12/04/2015 16:51

Yes, have had the odd little sip of DH's glass of wine.

Focusfocus · 12/04/2015 17:13

Absolutely not.

PotteringAlong · 12/04/2015 17:15

Nope, nothing at all in any pregnancy.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 12/04/2015 17:16

I had a glass of champagne at a wedding when I was 5 months., a glass of wine at Xmas when I was 7 months and half of Guinness when I was a week overdue while having a hot curry!

Feckeggblue · 12/04/2015 17:18

Yes I've just had my baby. From about 18 weeks I had a small glass of wine a week, occasionally 2, sometimes none. I was / am confident in my choice. It made socialising easier and I enjoyed it so much for the tiny quantities

Feckeggblue · 12/04/2015 17:19

AppleCoee personally I found that documentary completely trashy, full of bad science and mysogynistic.

Feckeggblue · 12/04/2015 17:19

applecore, sorry

avocadotoast · 12/04/2015 17:30

Yes, I have. I bought a few of those mini bottles of wine and I've had the odd one of those, or the occasional half pint. I've never had more than two in a week, but I haven't had them every week. Perhaps one every 3-4 weeks.

The later I've progressed the more I find even the thought of booze will set off my heartburn, so it's certainly not worth it most of the time!

I miss beer though. Dark, smooth, pale, hoppy, citrusy... And don't even get me started on gin...
