Retroverted uterus and anterior placenta - a wee bit disappointed...

Hi,

I went for my 12 week scan yesterday and was told that I had a retroverted uterus which was making it difficult to see the baby. I was also told my placenta was lying in front of the baby which would make it more difficult again.

I had wanted a downs test which should have been done yesterday however it couldn't be due to the baby's position.

I was asked to empty my bladder, jump up and down to encourage the baby to move but nothing. It did have the hiccups though - Teeheehee!

I have a wonderful picture of my baby but it wasn't quite what I thought it was.

I have since found that the accuracy of the downs test reduces after 13 weeks (ie tomorrow).

I am also a tad disappointed that I may not feel baby's movement until 22-24 weeks! That's 6 months! As my mother pointed out...

I had also read that sometimes an internal scan is done, however I wasn't even offered one. Instead I have been asked to come back at 16 weeks. I feel this is too long, especially for the downs test.

I maybe shouldn't but I feel a bit deflated.

I have decided on the back of this lack of downs test to have the harmony test and take my mum and dad with me. My mum has bowel cancer and is having surgery 2 days later so I am hoping this experience will be uplifting for her prior to her surgery (her prognosis us quite good).

I do have a husband but he thinks I worry too much and doesn't think the harmony test is necessary. It's not, but on the other hand I would like the reassurance it brings. Mum will also see a 4D scan which I think is another wee perk prior to her going into hospital.

I realise I haven't asked a question but more just voiced how I am feeling.

Thank you for anyone who has taken the time to read my post. No need to comment. I think I just needed to vent.

xx

Same as carrier - dc1 after ivf, they couldnt get angle for nt measurement so internal done which was fine - it was my suggestion though.
With dc2 i was 12w over xmas :( and no appointments so was 13w+ at scan, dc1 had been large for dates and so expected dc2 to be too, despite ivf, at scan they said my 13+2 was 13+6 so just within cutoff, which was a bit annoying as i had tried to move even earlier. In fact the apt they originally gave me was for 14+1, very last day which by their measurements would have been 14+5 so a complete waste of everyones time

Kitty I am very sorry to hear about your loss. It must be both emotionally and physically exhausting. I hope you have a good support network around you. I'm sure you will have a positive outcome. Sometimes there are sometimes slightly bumpier roads en route. My thoughts are with you Flowers xxx

Sunbathingcat I agree there are maybe some positives to less kicks!!! I wasn't looking forward to the sleepless nights! I need all the sleep I can get! I just have to see how it goes, it is all so very variable! Hopefully my uterus will move forward as time goes on. I'm sure the sonographer said that was why we were waiting 3 1/2 weeks to do the next scan as she had hoped it would be easier then. She also said after this pregnancy my uterus may permanently move into the right place.

Its funny because the more I read up on having a retroverted uterus it explains why I had awful painful periods, more frequent than normal UTIs and (I know some people say there is no evidence but) it took longer than normal to conceive.

Naty1 oh crikey! I think sometimes because most babies are 'normal' it is too easy to become blase when it comes to setting the scan appointments. Its a bit disappointing if you are looking to have extra tests done.
