Pelvic girdle pain or sciatica?

Hello, this is my second pregnancy and I have what I thought was sciatica. I had it with my first too. I've just done a google search and it says the baby pressing on the nerve does not cause sciatica and that it is probably pelvic girdle pain.

The pain I have is only there when I walk. It starts in my lower back and shoots down my bum and thigh. And stops behind my knee, it doesn't reach my feet. It's only on the right side.

I have consultant on Tuesday so I will ask what he thinks.

If you have experience of either pelvic girdle pain or sciatica, which one does my pain sound like?

Thank you.

Sounds like sciatica to me.

I have a full lumbar fusion, sciatica has pretty much been my life!!

SPD feels much more 'crunchy' if you like.

Sounds like sciatica to me. I'd recommend seeing a physio who specialises in women's health. If you're in London (or Sussex) the Six Physio clinics are excellent and several of them have physios who specialise in women's health/ pregnancy.

Worth paying to go private, if you can afford it, as it's best to try to sort these things as early as possible (same with pgp/ spd).

I have had both and this sounds like sciatica. I think for either my advice would be the same though. Take it easy to limit post pregnancy symptoms persisting. Always worth exploring physio though!

Thank you, I will look into physio.
