Cot bumpers?

I remember reading somewhere that cot bumpers are a bad thing as they restrict air flow through the cot and can be a suffocation risk. Is it safe to not use anything? Would there then not be a risk of baby hitting their head on the side of the cot or something? Or am I worrying about nothing?

I have an Airwrap. Prevents the arms in bars thing and is breathable

My lg bumps into the cot all through the night as she is a real wriggler, but only on very odd occasions does it disturb her sleep.
She was 7 months by the time she went in it though, so more robust!

Airwraps do seem to be the safe alternative to bumpers - we just didn't bother!

Second the air wrap, it's a mesh cot bumper I bought in John lewis. Old fashioned bumpers are a risk for suffocation, bumped head is better!

We also went with an air wrap.

We had bumpers with our first and even though we had no issues (that I saw anyway) I'm looking into getting an airwrap this time as it does seem the better alternative

Will definitely look into the Airwrap. Thanks for the suggestions Smile

We never bothered with anything, and they never got hurt or stuck.

Please don't use a cot bumper!
I mean, I'm a first timer due this month so no actual personal experience, but through a Facebook friend I discovered a page called Justice For Preston. It's about a mum who lost her baby son because of a cot bumper.. He was suffocated by it as he pulled it off from the cot, and it wasn't that it hadn't been properly tied, as the ties were still firmly on the cot! The bumper had actually come away from the ties.
She posts about similar stories and is an advocate to get them off the market, as they really are no use.
Cot bumpers were initially designed for old fashioned cots with larger gaps between the bars, whereas the gaps aren't as big now.
I echo what the others have said about the alternatives.
Good luck

never bothered, and he never bumped his head - at least not that I noticed.

Totally unnecessary - just decoration and potentially unsafe. Save you money for something else.

Airwrap great bit of kit.
