Iron infusion

My iron levels have been low for q some time and tablets haven't helped them come up. I'm 32 weeks and have been booked in for an iron infusion in a couple of days time. Anyone have any experience of this? The thought of side effects worries me Blush
Do you feel better instantly or will it still take a while?

I had an iron infusion a few years ago after blood loss during surgery. I was pretty out of it, but don't remember having any particular side effects from it. I know it got me back up and running again, but I did have to continue taking iron tablets after it.
Good luck, hope it goes well Smile

Yes I had to have 6 of them as my iron was so low & the tablets weren't helping! Lying up for an hour 3 times a week was blissful at that stage in pregnancy!

I found no side effects tbh the side effects from tablets where the worst for me! The infusions brought me up to where I needed to be thank God I did have them as I ended up in an emergency section situation.

I had an iron infusion during one of my pregnancies and I was extremely worried about the side effects. It all went fine though and I was monitored constantly. I was told that the very beginning was the time when a reaction would be more likely to occur so I felt a lot better after the initial minutes were over.

I was booked in for a few sessions but only had 2 in the end as I am needle phobic and hated it. I did discuss it with my consultant though and she said it was ok. I think my iron levels were at 7.1 before the infusion but I had mine at around 28 weeks I think, the baby was always going to be early and in the end I was induced at 33+

I did feel better straight away though and had a lot more colour in my cheeks!

I had one pre pregnancy - no side effects at all. Also reactions to them are extremely rare I wouldn't worry about that. You could have a reaction to anything random!

I had them weekly in last pregnancy for the last 2 months for severe deficiency.
No side effects, other than feeling fantastic after them, what with actually being able to get up and do anything at all!

Good to hear people haven't had side effects, bit less nervous now!

I had my first infusion last month. No quick fix but 3 weeks on I feel much better than I did. I did however suffer side effects for a couple of days after. Still had to be done as I was dangerously aneamic in and out of hospital and we were all waiting to be the magic 28 weeks.(not licences prior to that for use in pregnancy) Ive got another one next week. They do them monthly. Ive just planned to have easy days the couple of days after. But longterm it is the best solution.
