Do NHS do scans on weekends?

Sorry, this might be the stupidest question ever but I have gotten used to the idea that NHS dont do anything on weekends until absolutely necessary.

I have been sent my 12 week scan date for the 25th of April - a saturday. Is this normal? Do NHS hand out scan appointments for weekends?

Thanks for the help!

Quite a few do to catch up on the weekends, you can always call to check though?

PunkrockerGirl · 08/04/2015 12:32

Yes they do. I know of several trusts that do routine scans at weekends.

Aaah thanks. Puts my mind at ease. Will take your suggestion and call them @hatabout ... and confirm the date. I will be 12 + 5 on the day and want to make sure there wont be any delays otherwise wont be able to have a nuchal test.

Thank you both :)

Mine was on Saturday. It was great as DH didn't have to take time from work.

scarednoob · 08/04/2015 13:35

definitely check. i was told mine was on a saturday (chelsea & westminster), got all psyched and worked up about it - got there to find it was midwife appointment only, as the scanning department isn't open at weekends! fortunately they fitted me in 4 days later, but it was quite stressful. especially for my poor full bladder.

i'd just give yours a quick call and double check, but hopefully it will be right.

nehagarg · 08/04/2015 14:15

Thanks scarednoob ... I will definitely double check! I am with the Whittington hospital.

Fizzy13 - Completely agree. We havent told his work yet, so he would have had to take time off from his holidays. Was very happy about it being on saturday.

Think it varies by trust. Mine don't even do emergency medical ultrasounds at weekends, let alone routine pregnancy ones. Sounds like a Saturday will work out well for you :)

Congratulations :)

If you have a letter then why are you asking a forum? Wouldn't it be easier to ring the department yourself?

nehagarg · 08/04/2015 15:15

I tried today BumWad, but they didnt answer. Will try again tomorrow. Was a little worried (since i dont want them to reschedule and cause me to miss the nuchal test) and everyone on this forum is so helpful so just thought i'd check if someone had had experience with this.

Thanks very much Moomin. Love your username btw :) ... I am a childrens writer and you have just given me a great idea for a picture book!

I've got my 12 week scan this coming Sat in Kingston and I'm not deemed to be high risk.

nehagarg · 08/04/2015 19:10

Good luck crumbelina ... :) Good news that you are low risk. I dont even have my booking appt until the 23rd for them to figure out if i am high or low risk.

Yes, I had a saturday scan at Kingston as well. It's quite handy!

Icedfinger · 08/04/2015 19:20

I had my 20 week on a Saturday. Grin

nehagarg · 09/04/2015 10:18

Thanks very much ladies ... I finally got through to Whittington today and they confirmed that my appointment is indeed, on a saturday. Who would have thunk? :)

Healthy pregnancies to one and all!
