Is this 'baby brain'?

  1. I can't stop thinking about going on maternity leave, even though it's a good 3 and a bit months away.
  1. I work in a stats-heavy, data detail job which I usually enjoy. These days, someone sends me a spreadsheet and I sit and stare at it and sigh for about 3 hours. It takes me twice as long to complete any task as it used to.
  1. Whenever I do set myself to a task, I get distracted by something 'baby-related' (trust me, these have been tenuous at best) after about half an hour, and find myself Googling random stuff.
  1. I find myself zoning out and staring at random spots on the wall for very long periods.

Anyone else? I'm 22+2 so it's only going to get worse! Fortunately I work in a University so things are going to get pretty quiet by mid-May once exams kick in then the students bugger off for the summer; think I may just get away with it- thankfully my employers are very understanding and tolerant! It's just frustrating because I'm usually so on the ball at work; it's like I've developed ADD...even the fact that I managed to count 1-4 on the points above is nothing short of miraculous!

Baby brain is walking into a room and realising you have no idea why you went in there. Or putting your cuppa in the fridge rather than the milk, or realising your house no longer contains any teaspoons because you've probably thrown them all away.

I have two DC, including an 8 month old. It never ends.

Yes, it sounds like it!

I find I have to write extensive lists to remind myself of what I am supposed to be doing at work from one day to the next. 29 weeks here!

OMC1 · 07/04/2015 10:18

Skeppers you could be me! I am 21+4 at the moment and:

  1. I am 15 weeks away from breaking up and counting (I even have a little post it note on my screen that says 15!) Very unlike me, as I actually love my job!
  1. My brain won't focus on any large document or task for more than 15 minutes without my getting distracted or starting another job.
  1. The fact I am on here at the moment when I really should be working answers this one... oops.
  1. Yes, staring into space - I've been blaming the tiredness for this though!

Yes! I am 22+3 & baby brain has hit me hard!!

I took out fresh sheets to change the bed & from the cupboard to the bed, I forgot what I was doing & put them straight into the dirty wash basket. Luckily I remembered quickly the real reason behind me getting them out.

And like Jackiebrambles - I too write extensive lists to get through the day.

Fizzy13 · 07/04/2015 14:41

Oh dear. I can relate to all of these and I'm only 15 weeks. How on earth am I going to get through the next 6 months?

mrsbrionys · 07/04/2015 14:45

Fizzy13 - Stock up on some notepads haha that & a diary, my diary is literally my life, if its not written down in there then we don't attend haha

sianihedgehog · 07/04/2015 18:17

I'm in a similar stats heavy job, and I'm also finding it REALLY difficult at 23 weeks. I can't seem to get into the zone at all.

Snowflake15 · 07/04/2015 18:22

I'm having the same, and only 15+5! It's a nightmare, especially not having told work yet so no excuse for suddenly being an idiot! I'm trying to just double check things all the time and get someone else to check where possibleBlush

It lasts loooong after the birth as well. DS is 4 and even before I got pg again I still had baby brain. Can't retain information. I actually think it affected me on going back to work to the point where my confidence shrank to zero and I resigned. Sorry for the negative post Sad

thesmallbear · 07/04/2015 19:40

Me too...

Put something in for dinner yesterday, which takes 15 minutes to cook in the oven. Put the timer on for 27 minutes as I'm 27 weeks pregnant!

Filled in an Emma's Diary form to get the free baby pack from them. Where it said 'partners name', I wrote the name of my dad!

Wanted to show my mum a picture of the wardrobe doors we'd ordered for the nursery. We ordered from B&Q and I started googling Comet. Comet doesn't exist anymore and they never sold wardrobes anyway! Hmm

SpoonBender · 07/04/2015 19:41

I wished somebody a happy Christmas instead of happy Easter at the weekend Confused

thesmallbear · 07/04/2015 19:41

P.s. I'm just like you at work OP!

MissTwister · 07/04/2015 20:01

I lost the bus stop today. I seriously thought someone had removed it...

I was packing away the food shopping last night, then went back out to the kitchen to make dinner about half an hour later. I couldn't find the packet of burgers I'd got out to defrost; I'd put them back in the freezer with the rest of the food shopping. It took me another half an hour to figure out where they'd gone- was walking around the house muttering "burgers don't just disappear, do they!?"
