Very big bump 28 weeks

Hi, I will be 28 weeks tomorrow. A number of people have commented on how big I am for the number of weeks pregnant I am. I must admit, I haven't been very disciplined when it comes to my diet, and have been eating snacking on all the wrong foods like chocolate and ice cream. I'm worried that I'm going to have a really big baby. When the midwife last measured my womb about 3 weeks ago, she said it was spot on for the number of weeks pregnant I was, however is this an accurate assessment of how big the baby is? I feel so guilty now for being so indulgent.

Thanks, Sarah

Don't worry. For every person who says your bump is huge, there'll be another who thinks it's small.
I look like Mr Greedy when pregnant and have huge bumps out front. DS was measuring as a predicted 9lb+ baby. Weighed a tiny 6lb 13oz at birth!

So on the whole the size of bump and fundal height can be inaccurate. Saying that, it's a good idea to try and eat healthily so maybe consider some healthy snacks as well as the cake.

Please don't worry about this. I thought I was huge because every guy said I was huge BUT every woman I've come across and the midwife have said the exact opposite! Very confusing. Baby will be fine and if they're measuring right then don't worry.

Please don't worry I'm now 29 weeks and I had the exact same issue a couple of weeks ago when a lady in work really bothered me by asking repeatedly if I was sure I was due in June as Im so gigantic (she was quite rude and made such a point about my size and shape I was quite upset). I'm spot on with regards to bump size according to MW and in the past couple of weeks I've learnt people will either say 'wow you're huge' or 'gosh you are so tiny, your baby must be petite'... No one would ever say 'you're spot on!'
I haven't exactly eaten great I have been snacking and enjoying a few treats. I've just learnt to ignore peoples comments now. Just be happy and I'm sure you won't have a giant baby! My friend did measure up to have a larger than average bump and her little girl was only just over 6lbs she just had a lot of fluid!

Bump size says nothing about baby's size.

Agree with Gallicgirl, my friend is 4 weeks ahead of me & her bump is huge!! I'm 22+3 and had to go for an echo recently when the member of staff went through what she was going to do by saying 'Its as if you were pregnant having an ultrasound scan', I was like erm I'm like nearly 6mths pregnant hahaha.

Really wouldn't worry about bump size, as long as baby's healthy :)

AnnaBee36 · 07/04/2015 16:22

Don't worry, I am in same position, 28 weeks with HUGE Mr Greedy looking bump, have had all the comments, from "You can't have long to go" and "It must be twins" from strangers to "You won't go past 35 weeks" from a friend... but my last scan showed him as bang on in the growth charts. I am quite fat to begin with but I think it's maybe genetic, my mum is quite little but carried all her babies massively out front. Why not use the huge bump to your advantage to get out of doing housework/get people to give up their seat/bring you cake.....

JustAQuicky · 07/04/2015 16:29

Tell them they're being rude Hmm

I'm currently measuring 3 weeks ahead due to the fact that dc is long that's it. I was told I'll be massive by June Hmm just replied with how pleasant of you to comment on my size

AnnaBee36 · 07/04/2015 16:32

I love the 'How pleasant of you to comment on my size.' I might use that next time and follow it up with 'I hope you don't mind me saying but I can't help but notice the exceptional size of your nose...' :)

Anna Grin

I saw some on here suggest.

My boobs have grown to care to comment? Wink

OurMiracle1106 · 07/04/2015 16:56

I was gigantic with my son. At 12 weeks people were asking was I sure it weren't twins and by 5 months I was getting you must be due any day now. My son was 6pounds nine ounces when he was born (so very much normal)

BotBotticelli · 07/04/2015 18:36

Sympathy here! Am 25 weeks with dc2 and people keep saying "oh you must not have long left now!"...I'm like, er, no I am not due till late July. Am just enormous.

Dc1 was 9lb4 so hoping this one won't be much bigger!

cupcakesandapples · 07/04/2015 18:48

Im massive too at 26 weeks. Im ashamed to say iv been a big piggy this time round and the midwife will most likely shout at me!

I was huge with dc1 to be fair and she was a tiny 5lbs

seaoflove · 07/04/2015 18:58

Please don't worry. Everyone carries differently. Me, I tend towards Mr Greedy (great example AnnaBee Grin) where the baby is basically outside my body.

In my first pregnancy, my fundal height was bang on all the way through but still I got told I looked "ready to drop" at 32 weeks. I'm expecting #2 right now and have polyhydramnios - measuring 38 at 33+6 - so you can imagine how gigantic I look. It has bugger all to do with how much I'm eating though even though I eat a lot.

sarah00001 · 08/04/2015 00:17

Thanks everyone, you've made me feel a lot better and I don't feel so alone with my huge bump! I am struggling quite a bit physically at the moment as I feel really uncomfortable and my baby seems to weigh a ton. I've longed to be pregnant for years and after going through infertility and IVF, I thought pregnancy would be a breeze. Don't get me wrong, I'm so, so grateful to be having a baby but it's a lot harder than I thought it would be. It will all be worth it in the end!.
