Flat tummy at 10 weeks

Hi all,

I've just turned 10 weeks pregnant with my first after a miscarriage at 5 weeks in October. I am naturally a very anxious person but my worry at the minute is that my tummy is still completely flat! I have morning sickness and extreme exhaustion so the symptoms are definitely there but I'm finding it hard to believe there's something in there. I stupidly googled 10 week bumps, oh my there are some big bump pics there!!

I know baby will still be low down but I'm worrying it hasn't grown, I also know that bumps at this stage tend to be bloat and I haven't had any problems with constipation. There were 2 days last week where I really thought I'd popped out - but no just turned out to be a lot of gas! I'm a naturally slim person with strong tummy muscles so I suppose they might be keeping it tucked in. I think it does feel a bit harder though. Can anyone reassure me lol?!

I was naturally slim when expecting my first and had a completely flat stomach till 18-20 weeks. Even with the subsequent 2 DC, when you normally show earlier, I still didn't show at 10 weeks. I know it is hard, but try not to worry. IME, it would be more unusual to show at 10 weeks with your first than not. Hope it all goes wellSmile

I don't think you are meant to have a bump at 10 weeks! I am 10 weeks with my third, and although my tummy hasn't been flat in many moons, that's certainly not because of this baby! Grin

I didn't show at all until about 20 weeks... Apart from the bloat and gas of course Winkbaby is so tiny and still hidden away in your pelvis... You might be able to feel something just over your pubic bone in a week or two but that was it for me until about week 20!

Missymum6 · 05/04/2015 16:16

I had no bump at all with my first untill quite far along, this time round i look like I've swallowed a ball (19 weeks) dont freak your self out looking at pictures, everyones different and show at different stages xx

mrsnoon · 05/04/2015 16:18

Apparently the uterus doesn't come up over the top of the public bone until 12 weeks so you're unlikely to have a bump unless it's bloat. I was bloated right from the start, count yourself lucky!

At 10 weeks I think baby is the size of
a grape. People with second baby tend to get bigger quicker I think, my sis in law is built like you and she didn't show till about week 20. I'm 11 + 5 and I'm tiny and fairly curvy and I'm not really showing either although I do bloat a little bit but each morning I'm flat again, don't worry too much x

I was the same op.

Was still in my normal jeans at my 20 week scan. Bump only really made itself known at about 24 weeks. I'm now 30 weeks and there's no missing it!

WindYourBobbinUp · 05/04/2015 17:52

I'm 10 weeks and have a flattish belly, this is my 2nd. With my 1st I didn't show until around 20 weeks and even then other people didn't really notice. I even had a big boss at work notice when I was 33 weeks!

mumxof3x · 05/04/2015 17:57

Totally normal. Im slim build, bmi 18.5 at booking and this is my 4th, didnt tell anyone even family until I was 23_24 weeks. Im now almost 34 weeks and bump is still quite tiny I still wear my normal clothes although a few of my jeans are too tight now as ive obviously gained weight.

Thanks ladies that's really helpful and makes me feel a lot better. I'm sure I will long for these days when I'm in my final trimester huffing and puffing about! I'm sure I'll find something else to worry about tomorrow haha.

I had nothing to show at 10 weeks - I am now 13 (or 14 if you believe the new date the doc came up with the other day) and I suddenly seem to be getting fat - but it feels more like bloating than baby bump. But many people don't show until quite far on and never get a very big bump so don't worry. I have googled bumps too and some of them are very big for early stages - they are either tagged wrongly and are actually much further on or are people who have had multiple children and therefore show much earlier.

quesadillas · 05/04/2015 19:59

I'm 14 weeks with twins. No bump at all. I wouldn't worry, we all carry differently.

alien11 · 05/04/2015 22:54

I'm 14 weeks and have no bump & I cant feel the uterus up over the public bone! Worried but just have to countdown to 20 wk scan ( if the letter ever comes through!!)

Roseybee10 · 06/04/2015 09:12

I showed very early with dd1 but I was a good 3-4 stone heavier.
With dd2 I was a size 8 when I fell pregnant and didn't show until over 20 weeks. At 10 weeks my stomach was exactly the same as it was before pregnancy. I hope everything is ok xx

scatterbrainedlass · 06/04/2015 09:41

Like you, I'm slim with fairly good stomach muscles, and am 10 weeks. No baby bump, though sometimes in the evening I am bloated. I think with the first pregnancy, and with a muscled stomach, you probably won't start to show until at least 16 weeks, if not later. Don't worry, it means your body is strong and holding everything in place!

leb33 · 06/04/2015 10:14

I'm average size and at 20 weeks was only just starting to show, clothes got a bit tighter up to that point but that was it. At 10 weeks I walked around New York on holiday in Summer in my lovely maxi dresses/summer clothes and other than being knackered you'd never have known!
