Chest discomfort at 24 weeks

Couldn't find any existing threads on this. Since yesterday I've had a tight feeling in my chest - a feeling of pressure that turns to discomfort when I breathe deeply. I wouldn't describe it as pain exactly but it is a little alarming at this stage - I experienced it in last pg but much later when I was massive. Anyone had this or know if it's normal?

No idea I'm afraid but my GP did say if I felt breathless when just resting I should get in touch?

You know your body, if it feels wrong then ask for help, just in case it is something serious.

Do you have a number to call on your notes?

Is it easing? Worse?
Do you feel sick? Is it like a tight band at the top of your bump?

I had gallstones when I was pregnant that started like a pain when breathing in, but got worse until it was unbearable. But the first time I went in to triage, they did not know it was gallstones & said it was just how baby was lying, but tested for clots etc - second time pain was horrendous & then diagnosed with gallstones.

Chest pain, in fact any pain needs following up pregnant or not.

Call ooh & see what they say or try MW from your notes.

Thanks. It's been same for 24 hours, not worse. The constant feeling is very slight breathlessness, not sthg I'd normally worry about. But breathing deeply is uncomfortable especially on the left side around bra line. Think I might call OOO. Thanks.

Did you phone? How is it now?

Guyropes · 05/04/2015 22:39

Hope you are being looked after. All the best

Could be iron deficiancy, midwife told me that it can cause breathlessness. Get it checked out though

Thanks all. 111 advised going to a&e so I did and was there being poked and prodded til midnight. Worst case is a clot on lung but not a high chance. CT scan tomorrow will reveal all. Having blood thinning injections every 12 hours as a precaution. Feels worse today. My money's on a lung infection. So the lesson is: get it checked out!

Glad you got checked out and hope they rule out a clot.

Guyropes · 06/04/2015 19:56

Oh my goodness! Good thing you made the call. Hope you're given all clear soon

Chest infection?

33goingon64 · 06/04/2015 20:19

Paracetamol helps. DH is bringing me trays of snacks and DS has decided I'm boring and has stopped trying to climb on me in bed. So it's not all bad!

33going I'm 23weeks had this same problem like you, no pain but very tight in the chest, hard to take a deep breathe, very uncomfortable, feels like your going to stop breathing.

But I also suffer with asthma & had a slight weez, so went in to a&e in the space of 24hrs & had 5 nebulisers which helped the weez go away but the tightness stayed for 5days. (Longest 5 days of my life) in that time went to a&e couple more times & also maternity triage. Done lots of tests (ECG, chest X-ray, blood tests) everything was fine.

The result finally was (gas) GP gave me Gaviscon which helped in the space of 1day! I felt so relived after this I tell you.

Hope it's something minor like Gas & not to bad for you either.

It could also be due to constipation (affected me too)

Hope all goes well for you. I know exactly how you feel!!

Take care x
