Contractions at 14 weeks

Asleep last night I started to get painful contraction pains, coming and going in a pattern of about every five minutes. I have bad period pains when I'm menstruating and have also had one labour before so know the difference, only didn't get this in my last pregnancy 13 years ago.
Was very worried, they happened five times. I googled Braxton Hicks but my uterus wasn't hard and I'm only 14 weeks. Anyone had this experience or know what It was ?

can you make an appointment with your midwife? I've never had them that early on, there might be an explanation for it but I think you should see your midwife.

anxiousannie10 · 04/04/2015 11:24

Hi, I would but no one around today Saturday and bank holiday.

I had similar at about 12weeks. Although I didn't realise that contractions felt like that as it was my first. I didn't have any bleeding but saw my midwife and all was ok. They only lasted a day.
I'd see if you can get checked by a midwife to put your mind at rest.

I don't have any suggestions as to what the pain may be, but have you got an Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) at your local hospital?

Hope all is okay for you!

If you have any concerns I'd do a pp has mentioned and nip/ call nearest epu or is there a midwife led centre nearby? Hope all is ok x

anxiousannie10 · 04/04/2015 11:43

Yes I'm under the epu and don't have a midwife yet. Pains subsided. But still wondering what was going on.

It could be IBS, especially if it's coming in waves. Sometimes it doesn't even drive you to the loo, it's just your intestinal muscles spasming. I hate to ask, but have you been constipated?

anxiousannie10 · 04/04/2015 12:57

I do have severe IBS and you're quite right about it being a wave like pain but this did feel like contractions, just confused now. It's gone but not constipated. Left with an ache low down. Wil see if it starts again then I'll phone.
