It may seem a silly question but what are the sort of clothing is easiest to wear during labour ? Just a short nightshirt ? Or bra ? Smile

i'm normally a reserved person but absolutely cannot stand to wear anything while in labour Shock Blush

I wore nothing, just didn't occur to me that perhaps I should be clothed. Then afterwards I wandered round my room in pants and maternity pad, donning a t shirt only when I had to leave the room.

I took a light long dressing gown but never ended up wearing it as I had an epidural and had to wear a hospital gown. To be honest, by the time I was in active labour I wouldn't of cared if I was naked.

I've bought 2 maternity nighties, hoping one to deliver in and one to wear afterwards. Also packing some loose pjs with easy access for feeding

I took a short nightgown but ended up in just bra and socks. If you have a quick labour you won't have time to care a jot about what you're wearing. Even with first birth I was contracting every 2 mins and painfully by the time we got to hospital - the room was so hot I just took everything off. Not sure why the socks stayed on though.

I wore leggings and a loose tunic and bra to the hospital, planning to keep on the long top, but somehow ended up delivering totally starkers - dh said that as I got close to pushing I very calmly removed everything, though I have no memory of this at all and it's very unlike me as I'm usually even a bit of a swimsuit avoider!Blush This time I'm hoping for a water birth, so probably will be naked again.

It's the kind of thing you think about in advance but not at all at the time, or afterwards, IMO. Go with something you'll feel happy and comfortable in, and won't be too upset if it gets a few marks on it...

I wore a cheap baggy nightshirt with DD. DS's arrival was rather quick so I wore my bra, t-shirt and socksShock but did manage to remove my jeans and underwear in time.. just!

Wear whatever you want!

rockinrobintweet · 05/04/2015 21:24

I was wearing a black maxi dress which was a pain once i had a monitor attached to my bump as i had to role up and tuck into my bra! next time I would try and pack something baggy to change into incase i went into labour when out again!

Fattycow · 05/04/2015 23:26

I'm probably going to be naked.

I thought I'd be in the water so packed loads of vest tops for in the pool and after. As it was I ended up on the drip so no pool. And I ended up using the hospitals gown because Id forgotten my nightie. Grr. Meant easy access to the TENS pads though!!

I wore leggings and a top and took a primark strapped / towel like thing to labour in. As it was my labour was super quick. Just before I started to push I tire all my clothes off and was starkers - couldn't stand tk have anything restricting me.

Up til that point, having a longish top helped as there was lots of taking my leggings and knickers to be looked at and not always time to put them back on before I had a contraction so it was nice that my bum eadn't out that - semi aware - point of the labour.

Scarlettbg · 08/04/2015 15:06

I gave birth in a cheap Primark vest and nothing else. Good for skin to skin and bf straight after and I just binned it after I had my first bath as it was quite messy! I'd save your money for a nice pair of nursing pjs for after when you are on the ward.

PazRaz1975 · 08/04/2015 15:17

I took a Primark dark coloured nightie with me, but by the time I go there I was quite far into established labour so just stuck with the bra and vest top I had on.
Nice to get into the clean nightie after the shower though!

This time, it looks like they're going to sign me off consultant led care, so I may get to use the pool so will be rethinking what else I take to wear.
