Which bite creams safe to use?

Hi I'm on holiday in Spain and almost 5 weeks pregnant. I did a Poas just as we were heading to the airport and after I had packed.

I now have a few nasty mosquito bites but only have hydrocortisone with me.

Before I try and go to the pharmacy if there is one open as it's a bank holiday here today and tomorow are there any creams that are ok. The bites are on my arms and back/armpit.

If not is there anything to help the itchyness??? Thank you

When I got bitten by mozzies in Thailand I was advised not to use hydrocortisone cream as it can cause birth defects and from what I remember this can include cleft palate. I got recommended an itch relief cream with calamine and camphor in it but it was pretty useless.

I use one of those zapper things that put a small electrical current on the bite which is supposed to neutralise the bite along with a compress of ice cubes wrapped in a flannel or a flannel run under the cold tap. Hoping you find some relief!

I use sudocrem a lot with bites- I find it eases the itching. Surely that's safe for pregnancy! Or another good one is Germolene- has a very mild anaesthetic in and stops the itching. I regularly get bitten so have good knowledge of creams that work for me- unfortunately hydrocortisone doesn't work so much anymore!

My doctor advised to dab TCP or dettol on bites as creams can make them worse, according to him. Don't know if you can get them in Spain though!! My bro lived there and said pharmacies are really good there, try that.

There's a jungle formula (I think) stick you can use. It smells horrible as its urea-based but it does help with itching.

Doctor prescribed me hydrocortisone last week. Said that it was generally considered safe on pregnancy. However i would probably not use it for bites

Thanks guys! My after sun has aloe and calamine in and seemed to cool them somewhat. Might as well get some use as I am being extremely careful not to burn!

Will try ice cubes if needed tomorrow. Feels a bit unnerving being in a different country just as I've found out im pregnant.

Hello, just to say that the possible link between corticosteroids and orofacial clefts is with steroids taken by mouth. Some but not all studies have shown a small increase in risk with systemic doses, but this is v unlikely to be applicable to small amounts applied to the skin.
