Hi, I was wondering whether anyone had any advise on whether to hire a tens machine and where the best place is, there is the mama tens from mothercare or the Elle Tens, I've seen boots also offer the hire!

I hired the one from Boots for my first and am hiring it again this time. I've not used another one, so nothing to compare it to and couldn't really tell you if it worked in terms of pain relief as I've not been through labour without one, but it definitely helped with having something to focus on.
For each contraction, it gave me something to 'do' - difficult to explain, but in short, yes, hire one, they are worth every penny!

I also found the TENS machine really helpful in labour - agree with pp that having something to focus on helps a lot, definitely helped to make me feel more control and therefore much more positive experience than it could have been :) I hired mine from the hospital, which was cheaper than commercial options - might be worth checking whether this is an option where you are?

I have just bought a refurbed boots ex hire tens machine for 19.99. I didnt use a tens with my first and second. But with my 3rd I used one of the hospitals machine while in early labour right until end and honestly found it great, I managed better than I did with my first 2 births. So bought one this time :)

Used Elle TENS with both of mine. In fact it was the only pain relief I had with DS2. I suggest you buy if you might have more children. Also useful for BF-ing induced stiff shoulders. Good re-sale value on ebay I'm told.
