growth scan for being too big?!

My height of fundas was over the 90th centile yesterday at 31+3 so I'm going to a growth scan today. Midwife assures me 9/10 times this is just precaution but I'm still worrying. Why might baby be big? :(

My bump was measuring 2 weeks ahead when I was 28 weeks and they were concerned it was either a big baby or too much fluid. Turns out neither where true and baby is measuring bang on for my dates. My bump is now also measuring my dates and they think that I measured ahead one day purely due to way baby was lying. Measuring is not an exact science and they frequently get prediction wrong - try not to worry too much. It is good that they are monitoring you.

I measured big at 30 weeks and had to go for a scan. Everything was fine and I actually turned out to have a tiddler, 6lb5oz. Sonographer put it as nearer 99/100 that are fine and that it's just really hard to measure a bump accurately to within 2cm.I actually had a nice neat bump so I was probably just bloated on the day /mw measured wrong/baby sticking his bum up. I have to have a growth scan this time because ds was so small at birth.
The scan is great once you're reassured everything's fine, you can see your baby in so much detail.

My understanding is it more the amount of fluid they are checking rather then the size of the baby. I had planned growth scans at 28 and 32 weeks. Baby measured 50/75th percentile head and length at both. At 28 weeks fundal height was measuring 30 weeks, at 32 weeks measured 36. By 38 I was measuring 38. Ds was 8lbs 2.5 at 40+5

Can I just ask Hollyben, were the extra scan just for the fundal height measurments?? I'm totally freaking out about the extra scan/s I'm going to have this time at 28 weeks. No one really mentioned ds's weight when he was born, no concerns at all but it's been a bit of a big deal now I'm pregnant again as he was average (predicted 50th centile) at the 30 growth scan but was on the 9th centile when he was born. Feel free to tell me to mind my own if you like!!!

My extra scans were planned due to my age (I'm 40). They just happened to coincide with midwife apt. The midwife was largely unconcerned, possibly as I had the scans a few days before.
I know it is easy for me to say but try not too worry. I now lots of people who have had to have extra scans for this reason. Hope it goes well

Holden I'm in a similar situation, I measured at 40weeks today - I'm only 36+6! I haven't been offered any scans though and have been told I am carrying a lot of fluid.

Isn't a big baby an indicator of gestational diabetes?

Big babies are at higher risk of shoulder dystocia so I can see why they'd want to check.

Thats a whole other drama jackieharris, after two GTTs coming back clear I've now been given a blood sugar monitoring kit as I keep getting sugar in my urine ...
