36+5, head engaged, bump tight...

Saw my midwife today. My baby's head is engaged and she commented that my bump is tight.

Anyone gone into labour soon after being told they have tight bump with head engaged? Not sure how much longer my poor baby can be comfy in my tight bump. He must be getting craped in there.

Soooooooo impatient and excited now.

Try not to get too excited - you could still have another month to wait...

how many weeks are you and how engaged is the head?

and no , it does;t necessarily mean baby coming NOW..but tis a good sign....

and i would want to wait until 38 weeks or so..that is classed as full term......

I know he could be there for another 5 weeks. I am really hoping he isn't though. Just wanted to hear if anyone had gone into labour soon after being told they had tight bump and head engaged to keep me feeling optimistic.

lulumama - Yes I am 37 weeks on Thursday. I'm not expecting to go into labour tonight and don't want to as having a waterbirth at home and haven't picked up my birth pool yet.

Just don't want to sit here for another 5 weeks with an increasingly tight bump and bowling ball between my legs.

were you and your siblings late or early arrivals> that can have a bearing on whether your babies are early or late...

The notes just say 'engaged'.

Me and my siblings were all late and big babies but my mum is a much smaller person than me build and height wise.

Did you have similar labours to your mum?

might be fully engaged... i did with one labour and very similar to my sister.....!

you can try sitting on a gym ball to really get the baby right down...visualise the cervix opening and thinning.....rasperry leaf tea to tone the uterus and help with good strong contractions....and positive thinking!!!

at the end of they day...baby will be born when it is ready! you can gently encourage it..get your pool sorted and relaaaaaax!

I was a deep transverse arrest forceps delivery and wasn't THAT huge at 9lbs 6oz. So basically I got stuck coming through my teeny mum's pelvis.

Hope that doesn't happen to me but as I said, she is much smaller than me.

Thanks for the tips - got a list of self-induction techniques to start from 38 weeks. I'd actually be v.disappointed if after all my planning I had to go to hospital.

Can't help but be excited and impatient though.

ok..well , if baby;s head is engaged..there is no pelvic disproportion...so in all likelihood, baby will come through no problem......he is head down, engaged and ready to go!

it is exciting and it is the time you are despertate to meet the little one...but enjoy these last few weeks of pregnancy and feeling the baby inside you, being nurtured and grown by your body....

Do everything you can to not get your hopes up that its going to arrive soon! Trust me i've been there/ i am there.

My first dd was born at 42 weeks - long and frustrating wait.

I am now 37 wks and a scan two weeks ago said the head was very low, the midwife last week said i "could have it early". And i really wish people wouldn't say that because if it does come early - it can just be a pleasant surprise and if it doesn't it means i havn't got my hopes up!

Yep, 2 weeks sounds good to me.

Much better than 5 weeks anyway.

If it is your 1st, the hea can be enagaged for 5 weeks
And it matters how engaged... 4/5 is nothing 1/5 is nearly at the door!!
If this sin't your 1st than it is a good sign as those babies don't engage early!
