I haven't gained any wieght yet and I'm 19 weeks pregnant. i was already overwieght when got pregnant but haven't gained a pound in wieght!

I've had my ultrasounds and found that the baby is very healthy and well and that i'm having a little boy.

Any ideas?

lucky you!!!

R you eating more healthy now then before you were pg?

If you are overweight you often don't gain much weight (unless you go mad with food in the first trimester which I did with my first pregnancy as it was the only thing that didn't make me feel ill). This time round am 20 weeks and have lost weight overall during the pregnancy but its crept up by a couple of pounds in the last 2 weeks. Have been much healthier this time round. Am still in normal clothes too.

Hi,

I'm 21 weeks and haven't gained any weight either, although I have an extremely big bump. Again I was overweight when I started. I suspect its cos I was already eating for two before i got preggers...lol...but my appetite has decreased quite a lot since i have been pregnant. In short I look like I've lost weight everywhere but my tummy! I think as long as you're eating ok you'll be fine!

lulumama · 31/10/2006 13:08

i lost 2 stone in each pregnancy in the first trimester due to awful sickness....and then put it on by the end...
had two healthy children ...so finished the same weight as i had started!

also overweight at beginning of pregnancy..so was careful to eat well so as not to gain too much

some of the weight gained in pregnancy is extra blood, fluid, the placenta, the baby itself, the uterus, increase in breast size ..and that isn't noticeable until further along...

if all is well , then please don't worry...

Cath same here
I am 20 weeks and have not put on a jot.
I have a pretty little bump too.
I'm not overweight at all, but I put it down to giving up booze - was regular and enthusiastic drinker - eating much healthier food - more fruit/juice and due to stomach growth, smaller meal sizes but more snacks.
I think growing a baby uses quite a few calories too.
There are studies that show little or no weight gain in the first half of pregnancy (in women who eat normally) has no adverse affects on a baby to.

I ended up being over a stone lighter after my pg with DS2. I was overweight to start with, and, apart from the end, my appetite decreased.

If you are overweight to start with, it's best not to gain a lot anyyway, as it puts you at higher risk of high BP and gestational diabetes.

It sounds like evything is ok. If the baby is growing as it should, and your mw isn't concerned about your helth, don;t worry about it!

wanderingstar · 31/10/2006 13:17

Don't worry about it ! I have 4 dc, and each time I gained NOTHING until after about week 20, when it came on gradually. However i had definite bumps to show from before 20w. Each time i gained about 2st, in spite of:

  • voraciously eating everything from the start - lots of healthy stuff but a few cakes too !
  • not being sick at all I wasn't overweight. Started each pregnancy at just over 8st (8.5 for no.4). Everyone's metabolism responds differently; as long as the baby is growing you don't need to worry.
MumtoBen · 31/10/2006 20:08

I didn't put on any weight until about 21 weeks. I was a normal weight before I got pregnant. My midwife told me that you shouldn't put on more than 5 lbs in the 1st 20 weeks anyway (which doesn't sound like much to me!). I made up for it in the last 3 months though!

ItalianJob · 31/10/2006 20:59

I didn't gain any weight till about 28 weeks, apparently my mum didn't either. If the scans show that the baby is healthy and a healthy size, I wouldn't worry.
