Twins at early scan success?

Hi I have just discovered I am 6weeks pregnant with twins following a miscarriage in February. We are obviously overjoyed but REALLY scared something will go wrong like the last one (a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks) I keep reading about vanishing twin and wanted to know if anyone has had an early scan where they have been told there are 2 sacs with a baby in each (they also thought there was a heartbeat in each but didn't want to say for sure so going back in 2 weeks) and had a vanishing twin? Or anyone had this and then gone on to have twins? Thanks in advance

I had a scan at 6 weeks and was told I was having twins :)

They are both 3 years old now.

Scan at 7 weeks, two heartbeats. Now sat here like a beached whale at 32 weeks with two.
I wouldn't believe it was twins until I had the 12 week scan because of the fear of the whole vanishing twin thing.

I found out at 7 weeks I was expecting twins after being rushed in for an early scan due to a suspected ectopic pregnancy, I was in lots of pain and had a bleed. I'm now 26 weeks pregnant with mono-di twin girls. Congratulations & good luck with your pregnancy. Xx

Thanks for all your stories all I could find were stories where vanishing twin had happened (when the person had originally found out early) so it's lovely to hear some positive stories too. ThAnkyou for settling my mind a bit :-), best wishes to you all x

Twins still here at 25 weeks too!

That's after eating all sorts of strange things in China during the first 0-3 weeks, a motorbike accident at what would have been 6wks pregnant with a resultant large leg wound (week in hospital, antibiotics, pain killers, local anaesthetics, X-rays), full mountain biking until 10 weeks, snowboarding with jumps at an indoor snow centre, a 10km mud runner at 10 weeks, vitamin A as part of a multivitamin until just after 11wks...

If you hadn't guessed, I didn't know I was pregnant until I started getting severe faint spells at 11 weeks!

Since then I have had 4 large haemorrhages between 12 - 17 weeks and spotting in between, but that turned out to be bleeding from me and not the twins

And after that rocky ride of the first few months, I'm now I'm plonked on the sofa after a bacon sarnie, cup of decaf in hand being booted by two very active little ones having an arm and leg tousle in my belly that at their last scan have met all their growth targets.

Twins can absolutely be hardy little things!!!

After finding out I had 2 onboard, I read through everything about vanishing twin etc, I'm sure I read that if two heartbeats are found, the risks go down no end? Also I know risk keeps going down every single week until it's only about 1-3% after 12 weeks (found that bit out when I started having bleeding)

So hang in there OP, try to relax and look forward to seeing your little ones again in a couple of weeks time. And big congratulations on your exciting news!

My Mum had a scan at 6 weeks that revealed twins, they're 9 now and have always been healthy :)

For the last 2 weeks of her pregnancy she was monitored as they suspected Twin to Twin transfusion but thankfully because it was so late on it didn't have much of an impact other than a small weight difference. They were born weighing 4lbs 4oz and 5lbs 6oz at 36 weeks.

heatherxo · 30/03/2015 19:12

Had a scan which revealed 3 sacs, no heartbeats. 10 days later, two hb's, one fetus measuring two weeks smaller than the other. 2 weeks later, both babies measuring 8+5 weeks.. Then at 12+5 week scan found out one baby stopped growing at around 9-10 weeks. Now 24 weeks with one healthy baby. Will never forget my little angel baby though ?

Littlefrenchmummy · 30/03/2015 19:27

Hello... Only because you asked am i sharing as I dont want to make you worry more than necessary. I found out I was expecting identical twins at a 6 weeks, with 2 heart beats at the scan. Around 8 weeks for a follow up scan there was only one baby. He is now 15 month old and so beautiful and happy and healthy. Congratulations on your exciting news, I know how stressful this time is, I also had a missed miscarriage so I know how much you want these babies. Focus on the fact you are pregnant right now, take one day at a time, and if you feel super stressed just post on here and someone will make you feel better. By the way I had a baby before my 15 months old and he is 4 and super gorgeous and healthy too. Sometimes a MC is just your body getting ready. Think positive xxxxxxxxxx

I had a scan to confirm pregnancy at five weeks - two sacs were visible but no heartbeats. Now at 20 weeks I can feel my boy and girl wriggling around in there!

I know it's impossible where you are now, but just try to keep calm and enjoy it as much as possible. Seeing heartbeats is a really good sign. Nothing you can do will affect the outcome, so it's just a waiting game.

Congratulations by the way Grin

Thanks all for sharing your experiences with me :-)
I am trying to stay calm and relaxed (so hard) congratulations to you who have/are having babies and sorry to hear about your losses too :-(

So much aching in my upper tummy ATM it's bizarre but I suppose it's normal if carrying two?

Yup-completely normal. And expect it to continue. I have had some serious stretching aches whenever they have had a growth spurt-my abs weren't the tightest when I fell pregnant (fell off the exercise band wagon badly) but they are going to be shot by the time these two make an appearance!
