Doppler scan at 32 weeks

I don't know why I have been torturing myself by reading too much online but I came across the bbc article on how Doppler scans could cut the rate of stillbirths by up to 50%. I've looked into it and decided I'd like one (my hospital only offers 12 and 20 week scans). I can't find anywhere that does it privately beyond 24 weeks and I'm wondering if this is because I'm being neurotic and don't actually need one?

If you are near London the FMC will do it. I had one at 28 weeks there which picked up IUGR. In my case the 20 week scan had indicated a possible problem which is why the later scan was recommended. It was expected to correct itself but hadn't.

Thank you, I am fairly near so it might be worth the trip. I feel completely neurotic as there is no indication I should need one but I think it will be reassuring. It's an ivf pregnancy so I am super paranoid. I hope yours all worked out well, did it change your birth plan?

Hello I read the article too and watched the related tv programme and am planning to book a Doppler scan at the FMC. I'm neurotic too Blush. Best of luck.

Thank you, glad I am not the only one! Good luck to you too Smile

Mine was also an ivf pregnancy but I was quite relaxed until everything started to go wrong.

It did change my plans somewhat - from a calm home water birth with hypnobirthing techniques to my worst nightmare of an elcs, with a paediatric team in the room, at 34 weeks. She was tiny but seems unscathed.

The FMC are brilliant - it is prof nicolaides' private clinic. He is the one behind the research into the 32 week scan.

I agree that the FMC is brilliant- i have been there during both of my pregnancies. Prof Nicolaides is usually only there one day per week (usually Wednesdays)... So if you want to see him make sure you book in on the correct day. All the doctors there are fantastic but I found it especially reassuring to have Prof Nicolaides conduct part of the scan.

Thank you, I will definitely look into it, sounds reassuring. Glad all went well Euro even if you didn't have the birth you planned.

I am having a 32 week growth scan on NHS - would this include the Doppler scan too do you think or should I do it separately at FMC? I just read the article too and am now worried!!

I am just back just now from a private scan for the same reason as you! manchester but sounds like you are down south. 32+6, all was well so money well worth spent.
