I have told family/friends some of the names I have liked only to have been faced with wrinkled noses and disapproving looks or sometimes they just suggest something different!! I liked Oscar but was told it sounded like a dog and I liked Esme only to be told it sounds like the name of the unpopular fat girl that you can imagine noone would like at school??!!!!? I wanted something quite unusual in the way that it wasn't going to become over popular but it seems my choices are not that great!! Anyone else chosen their name syet....??

What an enticing image!

(Bet my rolls of flab would beat your rolls of flab )

Lolabelle · 27/04/2004 15:40

Thank you all so so much for reassurance!! I wished i had actually kept it to myself now as I can't bear all the naff suggestions from my mother and mother in law in a desperate bid to change our minds - I smile politely and decline but if i had just stated it was secret from the beginning they might of all got the message!!

With my surname being Beadle I might just threaten with Jeremy...

We have decided one Finley Patrick for a boy and Evie Lauren for a girl.
Saying that, will probably completely change when bubs actually arrives.

At least Twinkie was successful in putting me off of Tayla

CountessDracula · 27/04/2004 15:58

Well done Twinkie sorry but Tayla is not very nice! The names you have chosen, however, are lovely.

Beetroot you chicken!

Egypt - I quite like Maurice but then I also I like Albert (scary I know, must be those hormones). Perhaps we'd better wait until the birth.

Egypt · 27/04/2004 17:58

AHH! wait til birth. albert is not so bad. can be shortened to alfie, or bertie! but maurice?? shudder...........best not tell dh someone quite likes it!

littlerach · 27/04/2004 19:41

My latest choices are Evie Faye or Tom Paul. DH is agreeing at the moment!!
My other girl choice was Ava (but not with our surname) or Esme!! And Callum for a boy.
I have had so many suggestions from other people...

highlander · 27/04/2004 20:03

My GP asked my reasons for wanting to know the sex of the sprog after the amnio.

He fell about laughing when I said I couldn't be bothered with months of hassle of trying to sort out 2 lots of names
Gawd I'm lazy.....

karen01 · 27/04/2004 22:25

We have chosen Scott William Philip for a boy and Faye for a girl (scan did say boy but you never know. DD is Nicole Louise.

No back up names yet so will have to try and think of some!!!!Just incase!!!!

Linnet · 27/04/2004 23:03

Dh and I have chosen our names, had them chosen months before I even got pregnant. But we haven't told anyone our choices mainly because I said I wasn't going to tell anyone as last time I got the same response as you, everybody has to give their tuppence worth. And also nobody has actually asked us what names we're thinking of. 2 weeks to go until due date so they don't have much longer to wait until they find out.

I think Oscar and Esme as lovely names by the way.

sweetkitty · 28/04/2004 09:06

We had a boys name picked about 5 years ago but girls names much more difficult. DP has started calling the bump Abbie anyway so Abbie I think it is.

oliveoil · 28/04/2004 09:14

I like Eve/Evie but my surname begins Ev so sounds stupid . Pah to dh for having stupido surname.

Lolabelle · 28/04/2004 09:52

Okay I broke you in gently with Oscar/esme but we have also been considering Coco but when we did teste the water with the parents they honestly thought io needed to lie down for a bit!! I love all the names mentioned actually and love names like Albert and Arthur but hubbie puts his foot down occasionally ! he likes Coco May and Esme Ella but at least if we havea couple in mind we can decide until the bambino is born to see what she suits - his mum wants it to be called Anthony after hubbies deceased father but i don't feel obligated to name ny son after anyone however much it may mean to the mother in law i'm afraid!! New name for a new life i say...

Twinkie · 28/04/2004 10:10

Boy = Max/Toby/Felix

Girl = Madeleine/Grace

But don't tell anyone its a secret!!!

Oscar is a beautiful name - but we call ours Grouch which really suits him and Esme is one of my faves but DP will not entertain it.

Please be really careful though people often forget that if you live in the south like me lots of letters are droped and Katie can sound awful as can harry and lots of other names!!

Sorry if I knew a kid at school called Coco she would get called Coco the clown though!!

miracleabie · 28/04/2004 14:47

sweetkitty- abbie is a beautiful name.

tho I say that with predjudice.

Mum2Ela · 28/04/2004 14:55

I'm not one to see what the baby looks like before naming him / her. They look completly different a week later anyway.

My names are (notice 'my', not 'our'. DH and I are still in discussion . . .)

Luca for a boy.
Mollie (tho I really like Millie too) for a girl.

Twinkie · 28/04/2004 15:00

Mum2Ela my niece is called Emelia and everyone calls her Millie - is a beautiful name.

Jaybee · 28/04/2004 15:14

Twinkie - my dd is Amelia also gets called Millie - a colleague's dd is just Millie.
I also really like the 'old lady' names and was considering either Elsie or Mabel for dd. I love Esme, that is really pretty. If dd was a boy she would have been Oscar - that was 7 years ago so it was really unusual then.

CountessDracula · 28/04/2004 15:15

There seem to be lots of millies around right now! Three of my friends have them. Cute name

sweetkitty · 28/04/2004 15:16

Like Ellie and Esme too but too close to Elliot (the name we like for a boy, maybe next time )

Don't know if I should say this but one of our cats called Oscar so that puts me off it a bit for a baby although still think it's a great name.

About 15 years ago we called our dog Chloe after a presenter on Playschool before it was trendy, every time we heard a Chloe being born it was hard not to say that's our dogs name. Funny how things change!

Mum2Ela · 28/04/2004 15:21

Millie is out then. Will stick to my guns with Mollie instead.

Twinkie · 28/04/2004 15:23

Lots of Mollys too at DDs school.

I like Tilly (Matilda maybe) and Harriet.

Mum2Ela · 28/04/2004 15:26

Bugger Twinkie. Think I will stick to Mollie though. Ela (spelt Ella) is popular, but I chose that.

Tilly is the name of my nans dog.
