Hi ladies

For the last few days I've had a really sore throat, and feels like swallowing razorblades, I'm also choked with the cold, which now feels like it's going down into my chest.

I'm 26 weeks at the moment and wondered if there's anything that you can take when pregnant that will help me quickly?? We have friends supposed to be staying with us for the weekend and I really hoped to be a bit better by now! :(

Paracetamol is fine otherwise it's just a case of plenty of rest and fluids.

Honey and lemon is good for a sore throat

Thanks. So not much point in seeing my GP for anything then?

They are unlikely to give you medication, and most cold remedies are a no no in pregnancy. If you get a fever, or it isn't going in a few days, or it moves down to your chest etc, then go see your gp. Otherwise there's nothing you can do other than rest, fluids, paracetamol

Try gargling with soluble paracetamol

Thanks folks, another day on the couch today then!

some of the anaesthetic throat sprays are fine, so I would go ask a pharmacist first.

I went to see my GP a few weeks back because I had a horrific cough and hadn't slept in days. I was basically told to suck it up and let it clear on its own as there's nothing they could perscribe to a pregnant woman.
As PP have said plenty of water and rest. Hope you feel better soon!

I found Honey and Lemon Linctus from Boots was very soothing for throat and cough.

I believe this is non-medicated (has only glycerin what is just moisturizing agent) and was recommended as safe in pregnancy.
