Have just spent 3 traumatic hours in pre natal assessment. Am 40 +3 with high BP (only for last week or so) so being monitored as I am desperate to have home water birth (have issues with hospitals, which don't help my BP and I have back issues which is why I've been using my pool every evening!).

Today it was a teeny bit higher than it had been before (and here I would stress that they are all in agreement that I am asymptomatic for pre-eclampsia)

Then to be told by the registrar that she wanted to do a membrane sweep today and induce me tomorrow - total shock (and have to say came away consenting to membrane sweep and exam tomorrow but nothing today as am too stressed). She seemed to think that I should have been told I might be induced as soon as my BP started to go up - no-one had even hinted that....

Very and just need a rant, I think. 9 months spent planning the intervention/pain relief free birth to find more and more options being removed from me at the last minute (although one midwife did give me the thinly veiled threat that I could of course do anything I wanted but that she would tell the SOM that I was acting against medical advice and "on my own head be it"/

Sorry, rant over/.

squishy · 30/10/2006 23:34

trickle; no pains (but lots of activity and possibly tightenings over last couple of hours); clear

DH had just about convinced me to have sex, so am now frantically doing search to see if it's safe after waters breaking!!!

MKG · 31/10/2006 00:08

HOORAY!! Good luck

squishy · 31/10/2006 08:08

Thanks for all the support; had a show this morning, am feeling positive about going in for my appointment; will discuss fully with consultant and try and get a "balanced" medical opinion about if/when I should transfer in with regard to intolerable BP measurements (rather than their worst case scenarios) then will come home and walk/bounce on my ball for all I'm worth

sounds like your body is doing it spontaneously....let us know how you go.....!

squishy · 31/10/2006 08:48

That's what I thought!! I feel somewhat vindicated!! And relieved!! And it has reminded me that my body knows what it's doing, I just have to get out of the way and let it get on with it!!

Thanks, will keep you posted!

lulumama · 31/10/2006 22:28

hope squishy is busy birthing her baby.....

squishy · 04/11/2006 18:33

Thanks for your support - am home with baby, deliriously in love with her but feeling VERY manipulated by doctors, wishing I had gone against their advice (but they were very very bullying). Managed 32 hours of contractions every 3 mins with no pain relief to start losing it in transition, be told that I was only 5cm, consent to epidural to then be told I was fully dilated......let the epidural wear off as much as possible and then needed a forceps delivery because LO was too distressed at the amount of drugs they'd pumped into me...

Do feel very strongly about it, but also feel immensely proud of myself and my DH, who was FAB.

That said, am overwhelmed with the amount of love etc I feel for my daughter (will post on announcements) and amazed at being a Mum.

If I ever do it again, I will stick to my guns, use a doula or even independent midwife and trust my instincts and research.....shame they got to me, but it was my first and I didn't want to jeopardise my baby's safety, but in the end, they did that!
