I've been looking on line but am struggling a bit! Any recommendations...? I don't know where to start!

Hi! This thread is a little out of date. If you're looking for comfy maternity wear, take a peek at our round-up of the maternity dresses - as chosen by Mumsnetters. MNHQ

I just keep buying things online and having to send them back as they don't fit! New Look cotton dresses wouldn't stretch over my huge boobs!!

jaykay34 · 25/03/2015 18:29

I wore New Look, H&M, Asos, Red Herring and Next. As I was heavily pregnant in the summer I wore lightweight dresses, vests, denim shorts for casual wear; and skater type or tea dresses for my work in the office. Most of my stuff I got in sales and didn't pay more than a tenner for anything.

I've just sold it all on ebay and got more selling it second hand than what I paid for it new Shock .

Ange77 · 25/03/2015 18:32

This pregnancy I've been mainly in leggings a size or two bigger and long tops with long boots, I haven't even bothered with my maternity jeans this time, way too hot. Maternity clothes are expensive and quite hard to find, especially in bigger sizes.

theaveragebear1983 · 25/03/2015 18:33

I'm only 12 weeks but I've had to dig out the maternity stuff from last time already! Mostly wearing work trousers with elastic panels and my own tops with them for now. It seems like not many places actually stock maternity and I hate buying online!

AnneMarieH · 25/03/2015 19:35

I practically lived in my Next jeans; got them second hand for around £5, they wash and wear so well I'm keeping hold of them for next time!
Has anyone tried www.yummymummymaternity.co.uk or www.bumpaliciousmaternity.co.uk?
Oh, if you're planning on BF, Breastvest is brilliant, I just threw on whichever regular top I wanted to wear, over the top; 'created' my own version too, using a H&M vest Smile

Chchchchanging · 25/03/2015 19:37

Highly recommend asos. Def worth checking the outlet/clearance part of the site too, they have heaps of mat wear on there, I got loads of winter work dresses for under £20 a pop. The over bump jeans are wonderful too.

sianihedgehog · 25/03/2015 20:57

EBay and h&m. Got a couple of pairs of black jeans/jeggings for work, and a few pairs of maternity leggings and stretchy skirts for outside of work. And I've got a couple of empire line tunic tops that are OK for work and a few stretchy vests that are fine for outside of work. And a pair of neon orange maternity jeans which are basically my favourite thing ever.

berrypicking · 25/03/2015 21:55

the only clothing I find comfy after 20 weeks pregnant are maternity leggings, h&m do good ones. Also love their tops too. Asos is another good place to get good maternity wear.

cavamonster · 26/03/2015 05:36

I am just starting to cave in and look for items at 16wks and this thread has really helped!

What size should I be buying? I'm usually a 12 and currently still just managing to squeeze into that but gaining weight all the time! I was hoping (maybe naively) to buy one load of maternity clothes to see me through?

iniquity · 26/03/2015 07:48

I didn't buy maternity clothes last time and don't intend to this time. I get by just going to primary and getting stretchy clothes.

sianihedgehog · 26/03/2015 08:56

cavamonster buy your usual size. Maternity clothes are cut for the way your body changes while pregnant.

SmileItsSunny · 26/03/2015 09:51

I've bought most of mine from ebay - then if it doesn't fit right, it hasn't cost a fortune and not a disaster.

Having said that, am 36 weeks now - does anyone fancy a swap thread? I'll be after breast feeding tops soon!

6LittleOnes · 26/03/2015 09:55

I lived in leggings and skater dresses in a size bigger throughout my pregnancy, cheaper than maternity clothes and easy to wear after the birth as well

33goingon64 · 26/03/2015 10:04

Vertbaudet is good value - got about 8 items from there for £120.

cavamonster · 27/03/2015 20:17

Thanks sianigedgehog going to have a bit of an online splurge tomorrow...

yummymango · 27/03/2015 21:19

I am mostly wearing empire line or shift dresses for work with tights and H&M and new look maternity jeans at weekends. Go up a size in H&M. I was pleasantly surprised by the Red herring maternity range at Debenhams, some lovely dresses and I have bought a few bits from Next. I keep looking at TopShop but it's not really doing much for me this season.

sianihedgehog · 28/03/2015 21:42

I wouldn't go up a size in h&m, I'm finding my usual size is perfect, despite gaining a stone! I am usually fat in the arse and belly and small in the boobs, though, so if you're lucky enough to have a slim waist and hips usually you may find it's different!

Lop12345 · 28/03/2015 23:17

All my tops are just one size bigger but have bought jeans & linen maternity trousers from next & they are so comfortable ??

skinnylegs33 · 28/03/2015 23:48

Oh my god, chchc I love top shop Leigh jeans! First pregnancy, 21 weeks, had to do my first ever maternity clothes shopping on Monday and tried like 20 types of jeans from h&m, next, seraphine & finally top shop. They don't look much but they feel amazing. They're so light and
Comfortable, such a good fit.
I think I'll live in them for the next 4 months.
Saw some nice ripped jeans on asos and I'm thinking of ordering a pair.
Also got some stuff from seraphine, a cashmere wrap and a royal blue dress but I can't say I'm too impressed with the quality.
Tops from h&m and gap - with tops I just went a size up as I find maternity wear ugly as fuck

TheMidnightHour · 29/03/2015 09:29

Larger leggings (Evans) and my more forgiving dresses so far. Am 17w and any pressure around the belly has made me want to hurl so no jeans since 8w.

At 184cm tall and a size 20 with extra boob, I struggle to find clothes normally. Currently looking for 2 dresses to wear to weddings, shorts, a swimsuir and work trousers no luck anywhere. Going to have to drop a couple hundred quid at asos, hope something fits and expect to send most if it back I think.

HazleNutt · 29/03/2015 09:34

I got some really nice work trousers from Esprit - unfortunately leggings and t-shirts are not an option. I mostly wear normal stretchy tops with them, and my usual blazers, unbuttoned.

Maya15 · 29/03/2015 22:46

Asos Maternity is great, always lots of items in the sale. Delivery is free and sending back too.
I also like H&M (but trousers are very small) and mamalicious (you can also buy it via Asos).
Bought some over the bump trousers from mothercare which are surprisingly uncomfortable.

Bue · 30/03/2015 11:07

H&M super skinny jeans
Seraphine leggings
Isabella Oliver treggings
A few stretchy, ruched tops from H&M (by far the best on the high street) and one from IO
Also eeking out a few stretchy tops in my regular wardrobe at 22 weeks, and my Jigsaw oversized cardi (probably makes me look like a whale but it's comfy)
Will add a couple t-shirts and dresses for summer and hopefully that will be it

I hate the online aspect of maternity shopping as I'm unfamiliar with the sizing of most of the brands! I've had to send quite a bit back so free returns is essential.

thechinaclogs · 30/03/2015 15:20

At about week 22, I did an audit of my wardrobe and picked out the clothes that would still work for me (while putting everything else away, so it would be easier to get dressed every morning). I'm 30 weeks now and haven't bought any maternity clothes, and am hoping I'll get away with not buying any.
At the moment I'm mostly wearing leggings (I haven't even bought maternity ones, just snipped the elastic in the waistband of my existing ones) with long length or oversized jumpers, oversized shirts or if I want to show off my bump, pencil/ wrap dresses in stretchy jersey fabric. I also had a couple of stretchy, midi-length pencil skirts from H&M and a friend gave me a couple of empire line tops from Purpless which I've been wearing over these.
I guess this approach is kind of dependent on weight gain. I've only put on 4.5kgs, which I suspect is on the lower side although MWs seem hapy enough with my size and my baby's measurements. I know this approach wouldn't work for everybody but it has lots of pros, especially if you're short of money. I'll only be getting SMP, so saving right now is important to me and actually this period has been a bit of a wake up call in terms of how much I used to spend unnecessarily on clothes. I guess a downside is that some of your clothes may be too stretched to wear afterwards, but I haven't worn anything expensive or otherwise dear to me since about 22 weeks.
