I'm 6+2 and am hungry all the time. I was around half a stone over my preferred zone and .1 into overweight bmi when we conceived. Already gained 2lb and hate it. I feel gigantic and am terrified at gaining a huge amount of weight. I'm usually someone who controls their weight within around 8lbs rather than a few stone. The idea of having to lose a few stone scares me and feels hopeless.

I know I need to eat, but any tips on what to eat? Or how you have kept weight off would be great. I know in principle how to do it! Reality slightly different!

I believe from other posts that I've seen on here, that you can use slimming world when pregnant, it's closely monitored in the class and the aim is to prevent excessive gain not aid weight loss, I don't know if that is helpful?

You're hungry for a reason. Some women don't put on that much weight when pregnant but that wasn't me. I gained over four stone with my daughter but it all came off after she was born.

The weight will be part fat but a lot of mine was fluid which you can't really control.

if you know it's a control thing, maybe it would help to look at the nhs guidelines for what you should gain each trimester? then if you know you're within the guidelines, it might help you to feel better!

I asked my midwife at my booking in appointment today as I've put some weight on last year with a miscarriage and bad back. Like you I wanted to lose another half a stone ideally before getting pregnant again and I've put 2lb which I think is mostly water as I feel bloated. Obviously being weighted in clothes it says I've put on about 4lb by 8 weeks. She says guidelines are 5 lb in first trimester 11-14lb in second and 11-16lb in third so 25-35lb on average :) I wouldn't worry overly about eating normally I find my cravings are what I need. So when I'm craving carbs it's normally for energy as I'm so tired

Thank you ladies! I would like to believe most of mine is water. I feel horribly bloated. The guidelines you gave were super helpful ClaireJessica. I may look into the slimming world stuff. I've done it before so I know the basics and it is essentially a healthy low fat diet. Going to buy a healthy stash of 100 cal snacks and low calorie sustaining breakfast things for work and just be super diligent. Thanks!
