7 weeks pg with horrible cold (poss flu?) - to go to GP?

Hi all,
I'm just over 7 weeks and haven't seen a midwife or gp yet regarding pregnancy, I've actually just changed surgery so have never met my new GP. My booking in app isn't until I'm 12.5 weeks.
Anyway I've been suffering with horrible nausea and exhaustion, and then woke up yesterday with stinking cold. It's come from no where and hit me hard - throat is like razor blades, temperature is all over the place, feeling miserable, coughing, sneezing, sore ears, got it all going on!
Anyway I'm not one to usually go to gp, unless really need to, so wouldn't normally go for a cold but I've heard flu is so dangerous in pregnancy so wondering if I should check in with gp to be safe? I don't want to be a time waster!

You could see if they'd do a telephone appointment instead of going into the surgery. Unfortunately even a cold can hit you like a ton of bricks when pregnant. You are ok to take paracetamol, get plenty of fluids into you and rest up. I did all of this too late the first time I got a cold and suffered for much longer as a result. Second time I proactively started the paracetamol as soon as I felt the cold coming on and it was much better.

Hope you feel better soon x

Just to reassure you, I'm 8 week PG and have just come out of a week of having flu, same symptoms as you. My Doc reassured me that although I felt rotten, the flu would cause no ill effects to the baby. I did take some paracetemol to help with the fever but was advised to avoid decongenstants/ibubrofen.

Anyway, I had a scan this morning and little heartbeat is all a-flutter, hope you feel better soon.

Hello, just wanted to check, if your booking appointment isn't until 12.5 weeks does this mean you are not wanting the NT scan test as this can only be given until 13+6?

PS I am off sick today with horrible cold - it won't affect baby!!

I also had a terrible cold 6 weeks or so ago when I was about 7-8 weeks. Went to the dr and when I explained the symptoms (achy, shivering, sneezing etc) she said it was very unlikely to be flu as flu is very serious, you won't be able to move and will be very ill for days. More likely to be a very very bad cold. She also said that unless you get to a dr within 48 hours of flu starting (or was it 24 - it's not long) it is too late to do anything. You just have to lump it. It won't harm the baby. Pretty much all you can take is paracetamol and honey/lemon in hot water for a sore throat. You can also get a salt spray for your nose if you are blocked up

I would give them a kick up for your first app anyway or you may not get your scan in. In my area we, bypass the GP and go straight to the maternity unit when pg, is that an option? Just google the number and give them a call.

Thanks for your responses all, I saw the gp today and similar to what you said - she said to take paracetamol and suck it up basically! But was reassure it's nothing really to worry about re baby, I'll just feel shit for a bit!
That was a typo my booking in appointment is at 11.5 weeks not 12.5, although still quite late! However I've spoken to the midwife on the phone because we're going on holiday for 4 weeks when I'm 13 weeks so need first scan in before that and she assures me it will be fine! She said she can get the scan booked for the day I turn 12 weeks so not long after my first appointment. Bit anxious about how tight time is but oh well...fingers crossed!
