Flying at 30 weeks

Hello

We have a big family holiday booked for New Year at Chamonix - I obviously won't be skiing! My midwife has given me the impression that I should not be booking flights just yet until the Dr has given me clearance at 27 weeks - I will be 30 weeks when I fly out. With us flying the day before New Years Eve I really need to get something, be it snow train or flights booked.

Has anyone any experience of flying at 30 weeks and what the Dr will be concerned about? It is a relatively short flight - 2 hours, compared to a very very long snow train or 2 days in the car!

Any suggestions/comments gratefully received.

Thanks

Worst case scenario - you could get the train if your doctor won't clear you. Try to get refundable flights, just for your flight, if you can afford it. Or see if your travel insurance will cover you if you have to cancel.

I have annual travel insurance through my bank and I checked the t & cs and I wasn't covered for any pregnancy/birth complication post 30 weeks. I'd been planning a much longer flight to New York where obviously you don't want an uninsured medical complication, but it decided me against going.
At least in Europe, you're more covered, plus it's much easier to fly back if necessary. I'd check your insurance options though.

I flew longhaul (8 hours) at 30 weeks to go home to Europe from Central Asia to give birth. No probs at all. Check with the airline but the most you'll need is a doc's letter. If no complications in the preg, shouldn't be a problem till about 34-36 weeks.. happy hols!

Thanks Ladies I think I will go ahead and book the flights - they are going up in price by the day!
