Confused with weeks

Hi all,

I really don't get the way they figure out weeks. My first day of LMP was the 16th Feb, so today is my first day of week 6. I understand I'm 5w+1 day. However, all my pregnancy apps and weekly emails start with :"you are 5 weeks! what's happening in your body/what baby looks like during week 5". But I thought I am now in week 6?? That is provided I entered the correct due date and first day of LMP everywhere. So am I in my week 5 or 6?

You are 5 weeks. And you are in your sixth week. Like I am 37 years old and in my 38th year. I'm a pedant and find those pregnancy week by week guides immensely irritating so I dug out an old embryology textbook

Thanks bonzo, that's just what I felt! I'm a terrible pedant too. So it would be more accurate to read about the baby during the week 6, right?

Goodness knows. If the websites cannot get their dates terminology correct and consistent who knows what else they're confused about! Read both I guess!

Thanks, that's just what I do! In fact I read everything all this is so new to me!
