Leaky boobs

Hope someone can advise ... I am only 15 weeks pregnant and I'm waking up to find what I can only assume is dried milk on my nipples. None of my books mention leaking this early on - should I be worried?

BIBIBOO, not much help but i was wondering about this too.
I am 29+3 and have been waking up in the mornings with a sticky like substance on my boobs - can litterally peel it off.
Can see from the marks it leaves that it has started at my nipple and sort of dribbled down my chest........attractive

Eek! Am nearly 17 weeks - can I ask the bottom line question? Is there much of it? (Pictures damp patch appearing on chest in middle of work meeting).

Your reassurances please ladies!!

I'm now 29+2 weeks and has been happening to me on and off and varying intensity from 13 weeks. I now sleep in a bra with breast pads because I am fed up of washing nighties!

I assumed it was normal and was just my body getting ready for the baby.

Beansprout - doesn't seem to happen in the day (except after swimming) just at night - for me anyhow.

Mine only comes at night too, glad others have had it early on, feel a bit more reassured. There isn't enough "milk" to soak through a bra and top (yet!), just to leave little patches on the bed. Might invest in some bra pads now in case it gets worse though

dEFINITELY get pads! I had this in my last pregnancy and am now getting it this time too. I can actually squeeze some colostrum out sometimes (this is less freaky in your second pregnancy I guarentee). Mine leaked a couple of weeks ago and I didn't notice until after my dad had which was a tad embaressing!

hmmmm don't know if you want to know this but I only stopped leaking a few months back. DD is 2 and a half.....

Just want to put a vote in for the J&J breastpads - def tops. I tried all of them and these ones were great. Also had some cloth ones which were pretty good too - can't remember where I got those.

Just FYI, beansprout... I never leaked at all in my pregnancies and I've breastfed twice (so far) quite successfully. Just saying not only do pregnancy leaks not happen to everybody, but it doesn't mean much if it does or doesn't in terms of later success at breastfeeding.

That's reassuring news from you boingyzebra as I'm now 39+4 and not really leaking at all... in fact have been coaxing poor boobs with the odd judicious squeeze in order to prove the colostrum thing still works. Was starting to wonder if I would have enough left by the time the baby arrives. Do the hormones released by childbirth tell your milk ducts to start giving it laldy starting from point of birth?

spots my dd is now 13 weeks old and I'm breastfeeding with LOTS of leakage but didn't leak at all during pg. It took 2-3 days for my milk to come in but colstrum filled her up until then. Good luck!

This is getting silly now - I'm only 19 weeks (tomorrow) and boobs leak every ngiht for about an hour, first clear liquid, then a milkier one without any encouragement at all!
Does this mean I will be like a human cow by the time the baby comes? Will I be able to sell my milk on the internet for loadsa cash?!?!?!

Yeah mate, you'll be feeding for England. A friend of mine who was never leaking at all during pregnancy told me that she found it alright to breastfeed afterwards, but found it difficult to express (something I definately want to do). And she said that if you leak before hand, it makes it a lot easier to express. I've also been leaking from 18/19 weeks, and when I told another friend, she made me feel like a freak, she said: "Trust you to have milk with no baby yet!!". But it sounds like it's quite common. Now I'm 33 weeks and my boobs leak every day, roughly at the same time: After a meal, when my baby kicks, and every night. I reckon it's a good sign. Plus the more they leak, the more milk there is, so I squeeze mine out to encourage it (ready for the birth )

With my DD I leaked from being about 19weeks and had to express as she wouldn't take of the boob, other women used to be sat for agesd to get a bottle I used to be able to do a couple of bottles for her in 10-15 mins max. This time I am 36weeks and still not leaking anything, (unless i give them a squeeze then only little bits) hope it doesn't mean I will find it difficult to express if need be. Mind you DD was small and 36weeker this one shouldn't have any problem taking from me. Sorry just rabbiting away

But don't make the same mistake as I did by buying Tesco's own: They're crap and annoyingly itchy!!

I've got breast pads now, its just knowing when to wear them - I don't want to wear them all day every day because leaking is sporadic and can't be predicted, but I'm going to have to aren't I?
Why does the pregnant body leak so much? It's gross!

I leaked from about 19 weeks pregnant - worse following sex (like you wanted to know). Then I leaked loads for the first few weeks of dd life. Hated wearing a bra at night but I had to otherwise I would wake up in a swamp. Settled down now though, thank goodness - 9 weeks later.
BTW Mothercare breat pads are itchy but the Avent ones are all right. Haven't tried any others.
