I've been told last week I am going to have a Uterine artery Doppler scan when I'm 24wks. Never heard of this and cannot find much information about it on the Internet.

Could anyone by any chance tell me what it is?

How they do the scan?

Danger to the baby?

Has anyone experienced this? If so pls tell me about ur experience.

Thank you

I've had it. It's just another ultrasound the same as 12 and 20 week scans. Harmless. They're just checking the placenta blood vessels are working normally. They'll have a quick look at baby too, nice chance for you to see it too.

I had these regularly in the 2nd & 3rd trimesters of my last 3 pregnancies (I have a clotting disorder & increased risk of still birth). As the PP says it us just another scan - looking at the blood flow through the placenta. There isn't mush to see they superimpose colours to show the various flows & sometimes they have the sound on so you can hear the flow. I had a couple that took ages - very much dependent on the skill of the person scanning - mine were all done by drs too but in some places sonographers do them.

Really they are fine - just another scan.
