Hi everyone

What vitamins are you taking? I'm 4w+6 I am only taking folic acid 400mcg, and when I saw my gp he said I didn't need to take anything else. Yet nhs website says you should also be taking vitamin D. Should I just get it and start taking it? Also, should I take a pregnancy multivitamin? There's so much conflicting info out there, just wanted to know you opinions, thanks!

My doc recommended pregnecare multi vit has everything you need in it, not the cheapest but can get it cheaper online at places like Amazon. I'm still taking it now at 19 weeks and prob will take all the way through as maybe takes all you good stuff so good to have the boost.

Thanks whittlefish , I'll look it up. Only puzzled why my gp said I don't need anything Confused

You should be taking vitamin D if you are deficient. Believe it is related to birth defects and cancer.
But if you really are deficient then taking the recommended amount will also do nothing for you levels, you need to take much more.

But you wont know unless you get tested. Unfortunatelly testing vit D doesnt seem to be routine in UK, not even for pregnant women what I find sort of crazy.

Assuming that majority of overall population is vit D deficient, especially in this climate you should be taking at least some.

i took folic acid up to 13 weeks (when i ran out) and then got a prescription for Adcal (calcium and vit d) from the midwife that im to take until LO arrives.

it was also suggested that i take omega 3 fish oil as it helps with brain development, but i cant swallow them as they are too big (i tend to chew my tablets) so ive increased my oily fish intake

You can get omega 3 in liquid form, believe Viridian makes it, pregnancy-safe.

I take pregnacare (broken in half) with omega supplement. Pregnacare Max. The only official vits needed are folic acid till 12 weeks and vitamin D but having done some research I think iodine and omega are import ant too.

The whole of pregnancy and breastfeeding pregnacare with the included omega tablets. And trying to eat well too
