Just had my scan today. Was in there 5 mins tops. She hardly said anything, didn't tell us much about what she was looking at, didn't tell us whether nuchal measurement ok, or how fast heart beating, or whether dates match up etc.
I gathered that info from the print out she handed us - I think nuchal measurement ok, and dates match, but that's about all it says.

In my first pregnancy (different area / hospital) we had a much longer scan, she told us loads of stuff and what she was measuring and looking at etc and gave us a chance to enjoy watching our baby move. None of that this time!

Is this normal and was I just lucky the first time?

I'm slightly reassured nothing major is wrong, but just underwhelmed by what I thought was going to be an exciting experience!

Exactly what madre said. The point of the scan is to date the pregnancy and check that it is viable. You had a positive scan, your baby is healthy, congratulations.

easy to see none of you have been pregnant in a country where the 12 week scan doesn't even exist!

What's that got to do with the price of fish?

It does sound a bit cold - although I have to say I am just so thankful to come out of a scan with everything ok I wouldn't spend too much time complaining about the lousy experience.

sparing - er nope. I am currently insurance based. All the hospital give a shit about is what they can charge you for and all the insurance company give a shit about is what they can refuse to pay for. I took three hours yesterday to get Bupa to approve bloods being taken. 3 HOURS!!!!
