Hi girls,

Now this is probably the silliest question but I'm so worried I can't calm down (probably because this is my first pregnancy and I'm only 4,5 weeks along).

I'm trying to eat very healthy, but was really craving something sweet today. So I looked in the biscuit jar and found some Italian biscuits that were bought some time ago from carluccios. I had 4 of them. Then I thought I felt as if there was some alcohol in them and email carluccios to check if there is any. Their reply was that there is no alcohol in them, but I shouldn't eat them because they are the seasonal product and are now expired!! And she didn't even know I am pregnant! Right now I just can't forgive myself and in tears. Is it very dangerous?? Thank you all so much.

Not dangerous. Seriously don't worry. Please don't end up in tears at only four weeks pregnant over some biscuits which are a little stale. The next nine months will be very very long! Even if there was alcohol in them the amount would have been so tiny you and baby would also be fine.

Eat (in date) biscuits and breeeeeeathe.

Thanks Honeybear! Will definitely try and follow your advice. I think the fact I'm pregnant still has to sink in. I'm also off work right now, and spend my days browsing web in search of dos and donts for pregnancy, and getting stressed out if something isn't right, must calm down!! X

Don't worry! I ate several ham sandwiches not realising they were a no-no. No harm done, please step away from Doctor Google, he's a melodramatic git Wink.

bunny85 · 19/03/2015 20:41

Thanks itsnotme, I started realising that now! But he is so bloody addictive!! Angry grrrr. Btw I didn't know ham sandwiches are a no-no! Shock

Oh goodness, I didn't mean to worry you further. NHS has a list of foods that you should avoid. Sometimes things slip through though, remember some women don't realise their pregnant until much later on. Your baby is quite well protected, just keep calm and don't kick yourself for slips like stales biscuits.

CultureSucksDownWords · 19/03/2015 20:50

Ham is fine! Have a look at the comprehensive and detailed NHS advice on this:

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/foods-to-avoid-pregnant.aspx

Pre-packed ham (cooked ham) is all fine. Uncooked cured ham like Parma ham could be a risk, but apparently freezing it before eating will kill any bugs.

I'm just not eating ham at all as my partner buys it, have no idea what it is really (obviously its from a shop, not like a dodgy, backstreet off-piggy deal Confused).I know most hams are fine, I was just explaining to the op I've had my own freak outs and referring to the list is helpful.

bunny85 · 20/03/2015 00:10

Thanks everyone for the input. Itsnotme , you didn't make me more worried- just the opposite, thanks for reassurance. It's good to know I'm not the only one freaking out about every little thing! It will get better once I get used to being pregnant. Can't wait for my first appt letter to come through now!

Btw I'm not a ham eater myself- my weakness is grilled chicken! Grin

If it makes you feel any better I ate mozzarella today that was 2 months out of date - on purpose! It was the fresh mozzarella in a sealed bag in liquid and it looked OK and smelt OK so I ate it. I don't usually pay much attention to dates on food, you can tell when something is off and most of the use by dates are very conservative. You will be absolutely fine, please don't worry.

WorryWurta · 20/03/2015 16:39

You'll be fine, there's nothing in a stale biscuit that would hurt you. I'm at the end of my pregnancy (41 weeks today) and the biggest mistake I made was looking up do's and don'ts on the internet. I've had a horrid 9 months developing and then trying to overcome prenatal OCD. My strong advice would be read the NHS list and just stick to that.

bunny85 · 20/03/2015 22:04

Thanks girls! It all helped... In fact I was talking to my mum today about all the food related dos and donts and was amazed to know she never heard of 90% of them! She didn't drink or smoke, but other than that she ate pretty much everything while she was pregnant with me, and I turned out alright! (In my opinion lol).

I'm a big time worrier, must stop that Smile

It is hard to stay calm when every day I come across something else that in the UK we say is fine but on US sites they say 'don't eat or you will die' ....

avocadotoast · 21/03/2015 13:21

Ham sandwiches are totally fine Wink

I had some gingerbread that was about 7 months out of date and I'm ok. I'm pretty sure biscuits don't really go off!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 21/03/2015 13:28

Ham is completely fine and not on any 'no go' list.
Stale biscuits are also completely fine Smile
