Dating Scan question

Hi,

I have my dating scan tomorrow. I had my blood test for Downs Syndrome at my booking appointment at 8 weeks. Does that mean that I'll get my risk factor at my scan, or will I have to wait? If you had to wait, did you still announce the pregnancy to people after the scan, it wait until all results in?

Thanks

That's strange, u don't normally get bloods done until day of scan when they also take baby's measurements. Well, they might ask for bloods again and take measurements. You wont find out results for a couple of weeks. Best of luck xx

I think your blood tests may have been for something else - are you in the UK?

In the UK you have a nuchal scan at 12 weeks(ish) combined with a blood test to give you a risk rating.

Hi,

Yeah I'm thinking maybe the bloods were for something else, as it looks like the combined test is done between 11-14 weeks. Thanks guys. I'd still be interested to know if people did the announcement after the scan or waited.

I waited until after my 12 week scan but before I got my NT results.

I got bloods taken at 8weeks and s letter back around 11ish weeks telling me I was low risk for DS and they done measurement at 12week scan snd told me there and then that measurements were fine

I had my scan at 12 weeks and the bloods done then, and we did announce the news even though we didn't get the results for another three weeks.

I think it's personal choice whether you wait to announce though.

Matilda30 · 19/03/2015 16:16

Ah so maybe they were the bloods, no letter yet, but hopefully they tell me tomorrow. Can't stand all this waiting, pg has been crappy so far.

Only you can really answer that question OP as you should announce when you feel comfortable. For me and DH we would keep a DS child, but of course everyone has different opinions on this and only you can say what you might decide if in that position and what is right for you and your family. You might feel that you don't want to tell people if you're worried about telling them about a subsequent termination. Or you might want to tell some people but not others.
It's worth noting that they test for some other things during the routine bloods, again, some of those results might be important to you to find put first. Of the top of my head I can't remember but I think its something like Pataus which is more life limiting than DS.
Hope all goes well

I also had my bloods done with my scan. The bloods they took at 8 weeks were my FBC, Rubella status and Blood group

I'm 27 weeks on Sunday and still haven't told peopleGrin

I had bloods taken after my 8 week booking appointment at about 9 or 10 weeks and then at my 12 week scan they gave me the results.
