Dating scan question

Hi all,

When having your dating scan did you find that you were behind where you thought you were date-wise or ahead? I'm 9+2 but I'm starting to think what if I'm only like 6 weeks and I will find out at the scan it's a month out! That would be annoying! I would love to know if people went to the 12 week scan and found out they were ahead? x

When was your last period and when was your first positive pregnancy test?

People do end up being a month out but that's normally because of irregular cycles and you would probably already know your dates might change.

I thought I was 7 weeks, was dated at 7 weeks, but then put forward a week at my 12 week scan!

A week either way is totally normal.

About a week each way is common. More than that is unlikely unless you have irregular cycles or can't remember when you had your last period.Smile

Ah ok, only a week is manageable! Thought it would be like 6 weeks out! x

No. You are unlikely to be 6 weeks when you think you are 12. Otherwise you wouldn't have had a positive pregnancy test after your first missed period.

My dating scan with my little girl thought I was a week less pregnant than I thought (I still think I was right though as she came 6 days early!)

itsnotmeitsyou1 · 19/03/2015 14:42

Just had my scan today, I have been dated one day ahead of original estimate (11.5 instead of 11.4). To be honest I though I may be up to a week ahead, was convinced I had ovulated early and must be 12 weeks on the dot. Shows what I know Grin.

Everyone else is right though, you can only be that far out in dates with irregular cycles. I had a positive two days before my period in a normal 28 days cycle myself, so could only be betwee 11-12 weeks really.

Number3cometome · 19/03/2015 14:46

I had a progesterone day 21 test the month I became pregnant, by day 21 I had not ovulated, so I know for a fact my dates from the hospital scan are wrong.

It's only a guide, very few babies turn up on their due date anyway.

The scans are done from development and size, but of course some people will be dated ahead as they just have bigger babies (like myself).

My first 12 week scan I was dated at 9 weeks. But that is because of irregular cycles as others have said. But I knew I was only 9 weeks but they insisted on using lmp. I think a week either way is more normal.

OMC1 · 19/03/2015 16:22

I was only one day out, which I am geekily proud of! Smile

S2b16 · 19/03/2015 21:13

1st scan dated me at 4-5 weeks I should have been 6+3, went back 3 weeks later and was 8+4 so almost caught up to what I expected.

Cornberry · 19/03/2015 22:47

I had an early scan when I thought I was 6 weeks and was told I was 5 weeks, and then at 12 week scan was moved forward again to 13 weeks.

weeblueberry · 19/03/2015 23:36

I was 4 days out but I'm convinced my dates are more accurate Grin

newbian · 20/03/2015 04:30

Based on LMP I should have been 8+2 but the scan put it back to about 7 weeks. I wasn't surprised as I only got a positive HPT a week after my period was due, and I am pretty sure I ovulated late based on my temps and CM.
