Hi ladies,

When was the earliest your consultant booked you in for a CS?

CS is my only option, seen the anaesthetist and this will be done under a GA.

I have an appointment to see my consultant in 1.5 weeks and would like to book the date for my CS (consultant has already said 38 weeks)

I will be 24 weeks at the next appointment.

Can't see the point of waiting until later on to book a date if the decision has been made?

Arghh I hope so! DS (I had a labour) was born at 40 weeks.
I went in to labour at 38+5

I hope they don't make me go too late, an emergency CS under a GA with a full stomach is never a good idea!

(my stomach is full 99.9% of the time)

I'm amazed at all these early bookings! I never got my date as ended up with emcs at 35 weeks, but cwas told they'd book me at 37 for week 39 or 38.

WindYourBobbinUp · 16/03/2015 13:52

Oh and even if they give you a date, an emergency case (like me) will sometimes bump you to another day

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 16/03/2015 13:52

Well, um, if you say you won't consent to a section at 38 weeks because you believe it's only 37 then it's refusing an intervention. They can't make you.

Not that advisable because you want to work as a team to agree a date. But might help you feel more confident putting your case across?

With your emergency, when did you go into labour?

Number3cometome · 16/03/2015 13:57

Penguins 38+5
I had seizures in labour (eclampsia) which was not identified as they didn't test my urine grr.
My BP was 220/110, DS was born at exactly 40 weeks.

DD I had pre-eclampsia, was due to have a VBAC but took a turn for the worst and was booked in the week before (as far as I can tell from my old notes)

This time no messing about, want to get booked in.

Totally understand that I can get bumped, and that I may go in to labour earlier, and be the bumpee haha

Sorry 39+5 with the emergency not 38+5!

I saw my consultant at 20 weeks and she said she'll be booking me in @ 32 week appointment. Im having antenatal app and growth scan that day with her.

She told me the date it would likely be (39 or 39+1) but didn't officially book it in.

BumWad · 16/03/2015 23:00

I'm seeing my consultant at 26 weeks in 3 weeks time where i have to let him know if I want an induction or elcs due to previous stillbirth. Mine will be around 37 weeks I think dependent on growth scans. I'm nervous as hell and can't even make my mind up which route to go down! Sorry that doesnt really answer your question Confused

BirdInTheRoom · 16/03/2015 23:04

Hi, CS number 3 was booked in at my 20 week consultant appointment for 39 weeks exactly!

My previous CS they wanted me to consider VBAC so it wasn't booked in until much later - around 36 weeks.

This time it was just assumed I would have a CS so just got booked straight in!

elliejjtiny · 17/03/2015 05:50

I had a category 3 emcs with DS4. I ended up being bumped until the next day as there were a lot of category 1s and 2s who were higher priority. The next day it was me doing the bumping and I went in front of the lady who was having an elcs.

With DS5 I had a category 1 emcs so there was no hanging about. DS5 was born about 15 minutes after I found out I was having one. No time for a hospital gown (I had my C-section wearing my nightie which much to my amazement was still relatively clean afterwards, just a puke stain which washed out easily) or even a consent form.

Number3cometome · 17/03/2015 09:04

Ellie

My first was a cat 1 - I wasn't even concious, so no signing forms for me either. I had my nightie on which I was labouring in, but not sure whatever happened to that!

OK I will ask Consultant if he can book me in at the next appointment seeing as this is definitely going to be a CS under a GA

Had my appointment and we were in there for 3 minutes Hmm we'd waited over an hour to be seen as well Angry

He asked:

  • if I had any medical conditions
  • if I was any medications
  • I'll need a GTT

He then said we'll discuss your birthing options at 36 weeks you can then say if you want a VBAC or Section. I said I want a section but need to give my sister 4-6 weeks notice to get the time off work. He said that at 36 he'll refer me for a section, they'll then call me and give me a date. It can be before or after my DD I can however say I can't do this or that date and they'll give me another time.

HTH

I got the green light for a section at 16 weeks, and was told to make an appointment at 34 weeks to come back and book a date.

As it happened, due to annual leave I was only able to book an appointment at 32 weeks, or 36 weeks.

Needless to say, I chose 32. That will be on Monday.
