Nine weeks...bleeding

I haven't had any spotting or bleeding so far - nine weeks, first pregnancy (thus panicking at everything, as you do...) strong heartbeat seen at seven and eight weeks on scans. Have been super sick with pregnancy nausea although that's faded a bit this last week.

This morning I started to bleed. It's not very heavy, and there's brownish blood mixed in with redder blood. No bad pain, although I've been having nasty pains from an ovarian cyst and a couple of cramps.

Called acute care who told me feet up and monitor, and if it's still happening in two days/ pain starts/ it gets heavier to call back.

I think I just need some reassurance... :(

if your bleeding and you ring your early pregnancy unit they will usually ask you in for a scan. are you in the uk? (only ask as you had a 7 and 8 week scan and not the norm here).

im sure ive read that you can get bleeding from cysts so it could just be that that has moved / burst. a scan would give more reassurance though.

try not to worry too much, a lot of women bleed in pregnancy and everything is fine. think it is also reassuring you have no cramps. hope u r ok Thanks

I think I had bleeding at that stage. DS absolutely fine. I think you have to take the hospital's advice and just hang tight. Fingers crossed for you.

I'm not in the UK (expat living in sweden) I had an early scan because I was puking so much and they just wanted to check everything is ok. They are very hands off here... I did speak to the mw today and she said 9/10 it'll be ok but I am still so worried.

Thanks ginger and testing...I must stop googling. One reputable site said fifty fifty chance of loss if bleeding...surely that can't be right?!

Skipton I'm in a similar position to you in that I've got some bleeding, although not yet been for a scan (going tomorrow).

This isn't my first pregnancy. I know I bled during my first, and all was fine. I also recall if you've seen a heartbeat the odds of it being fine shoot up. Bleeding is really common.

But of course I'm sat here trying to tell myself all that stuff too, as none of it stops me worrying either.

I saw the 50% thing too. It doesn't say how they define bleeding though, there must be some parameters and I imagine it's more than a bit of spotting. And they aren't going to know about everyone who bleeds, plenty won't seek help so they wouldn't be known about. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.

In your shoes I'd hold on the the fact you've seen a heartbeat. That's what I'm hoping will happen tomorrow as the odds are very very much in your favour once you've seen that. But I know it really isn't that easy.

It is a good induction to motherhood in my experience though. Worrying about them is a big part of it, something I was unprepared for.

Another thing, have you read about placental implantation bleeding? I like reading about that as it happens about this time.

Skiptonlass · 15/03/2015 16:15

Thanks chaser, I hope it goes well for you tomorrow. The sheer terror of this has been a shock to me. I'm normally very 'meh' about blood and guts - it's a standing joke in our house that my hubby has to drag me to the doctors because I'm usually 'it'll be fine!' But pregnancy seems to have made me extremely jumpy. I called my mother today and she basically said that this is a harbinger of the endless worry motherhood brings.....:)

I'm trying to think that a lot of the really bad stuff (ectopic) has been ruled out already. Maybe the cyst on my ovary burst? Maybe that placenta is just burrowing in and hit some plumbing? I will go and remind myself about placental implantation....

Good luck for tomorrow. I have my fingers crossed for a healthy bean beating away!
