Admitted in to hospital (labour ward) for chest pains last night????

I experienced chest pains yesterday evening so rang the maternity triage, they advised I need to come in asap. Anyway came in around 9:30pm, they checked baby's heartbeat - all fine. Done an ECG, doctor said everything looks normal. Anyhow they asked about heart disease in my family? as I told them my brother suffered a heart attack last year at a young age this made them worry. They took blood from my main artery in my wrist, then did a X-ray. They admitted me & then gave me a Blood thinning injection.

They said I need to have a heart scan but that will be done on Monday so I need to stay in until then.

Can anyone advise me on there experiences during pregnancy with chest pain???

What happened? Outcome?

Worst thing is not knowing whats going on....

I had burning chest pain at nights for about 5 days. Was also throwing up. Got told it was a sickness bug and severe reflux but one night I'd had enough and was struggling to cope with the pain so I went in to the hospital. They found my BP was sky high and I had protein in my urine. Blood tests came back the next day with problems with my liver. They also sent me for a growth scan the next day and decided he was measuring too small so they thought I might have pre eclampsia. To cut a long story short I went in at 35+6, was induced at 36+1 and had him at 36+3.

Suppose it depends what your chest pain is like and if you have any other symptoms. Good luck, I know how miserable it is being stuck in hospital when you're pregnant.

They will be checking for any problems with your heart that you might not know about and the blood thinners will be to prevent blood clots just in case.

Is there anyone there you can talk to? It's really good that they are taking this seriously.

My friend had it and it was pleurisy.

Assume they have done a d-dimer test - that gives an indication of how likely a blood clot is?

MumToBe2015R · 14/03/2015 10:05

No one here I can talk to, everyone's curtains are drawn...

giraffes I haven't had a d-doner test.

I'm 20wks today. Was told by the doctor last night that he thinks I'm roughly 25wks... But they haven't checked this by doing a scan.

Wonder if I should ask the midwifed on duty now if they can do a scan to check.

Yes, talk to the midwife. Explain how you're feeling and the questions you have - she should be able to give you some idea of what's going on, even if she doesn't know the details. It sounds as if they're being hyper-careful, which is a good thing, if a bit scary. You're in the best place!

Just want to wish you all the best, I get chest pains (and palpitations) at times too (have done for a year since before pregnant) and all my heart tests came back fine etc so although they aren't sure what it is they think the chest pain is something called costochondritis(inflammation of the chest muscles) and pregnancy can make this worse. Hoping it's nothing serious Flowers

I was in hospital on Monday with chest pains and short of breath, they were worried about blood clots had lots of blood, chest X-ray, a test where I had to walk round for 6 minutes with a SAts monitor on and the d-dimer blood test or whatever it was called. All came back ok so I was sent home and waiting for an appt to have a 24hr ECG on as the 2 little ecgs they did in hospital showed heart missing beats x hope all your tests come back ok to , it is the not knowing that's awful, I have just been told to rest :/

reallywittyname · 14/03/2015 16:12

Yes, they will be checking you for blood clots. I had an overnight stay due to chest pains - we all knew it was due to all the coughing I'd done which had pulled loads of chest muscles, but the pain had changed, and the doctor said it was because they get very twitchy and over-cautious when pregnant women complain of chest pains. You'll probably be allowed home once they've ruled out a clot - provided everything else is fine. Speak to the midwife and ask for information, especially if there is some confusion about how far along you are. Have you been for the 20-week scan yet?

MumToBe2015R · 15/03/2015 00:23

Yesterday they promised me they would do a growth scan today. And now there saying it will be Monday.

I have my 20week scan on Tuesday.

The staff to do it probably aren't in until Monday. Very annoying. I'm sorry, spending the weekend in hospital not knowing what is going on is really tough.

MumToBe2015R · 15/03/2015 11:23

That's what the doctor said to me today that the department is closed over the weekend. She also now told me after keeping me here since Friday that I'm not guaranteed a scan on Monday aswell as it may be very busy!! I will get really pissed off if they think they are going to keep me an extra day unessessarily Angry

Hopefully they won't make you wait too long!

Mummytogoldie · 15/03/2015 12:45

Have you had the blood clot tests etc? I can't understand why they would keep you in if they have cleared you for a blood clot x Are you still having lots of pain? They only kept me in for 10 hours and discharged me when all blood clot things came back negative x Hope they give you some answers soon x

MumToBe2015R · 15/03/2015 15:19

When I came in on Friday they straight away did a:- ECG, took blood from main artery in wrist - told me Saturday morning, everything was fine.

But they started me on Blood thining injections Friday night (once a night) incase if is a clot then it can dissolve....

Done another ECG & blood test last night - again got told this morning ALL CLEAR!

No pains anymore, and have informed the doctor about this. They say there keeping me in because where they need to do the heart scan that's closed over the weekend & reopens Monday morning, and feel it's best for me to stay here & be monitored incase I get pains again.

I understand there just trying to take care but I feel this is abit OTT because I could have always just come back Monday morning for the test.... Arghhhh Angry doesn't help when you don't get any sleep either because the nurses talk & laugh all night!

I know it's really frustrating but someone I know had their baby prematurely because of an undiagnosed heart problem - they are right to wait for the scan I think, just in case.

Hospital sucks though, big sympathy. I hope you've had visitors come and spoil you today.
