I've never even heard of it, sorry.

Do you mean where they measure the blood flow going to and from baby? If so then yes I have them quite frequently

Xo90 · 13/03/2015 20:01

I'm not sure, I'm being monitored this pregnancy because of previous iugr baby, and now this ones growth has slowed down so the consultant said she'd get me in for an extra scan. I got the letter this morning and it says Doppler study US.

So I suppose blood flow makes sense, I was thinking it was something to do with the heart.

I think they'll check the blood flow between baby/placenta in case reduced reduced blood flow caused the iugr

Apple17 · 13/03/2015 20:11

Yes I've had previous IUGR babies so it would be the blood flow they would be checking.
It's just like a normal scan but they check the blood flow going to and from baby, I've just had one and will be having another in a couple of weeks, at the moment my blood flow is showing elevated resistance meaning at the moment it's ok but not the best so my baby may be on the small side. Your consultant should explain all the results to you after, any other questions just ask.

Having this myself next week as resistance has increased in two weeks and baby shows no growth /weight gain ... It was only picked up after I went to day unit for reduced movement ... had growth scan at 32 weeks and discharged from consultant care as all looked good, 34+2 today and suddenly baby has breeched and showing signs of slowing growth

FaFoutis · 13/03/2015 21:02

I had them, due to a history of pre-eclampsia. It is the same as a normal scan but it takes quite a lot longer.
Your consultant will explain the results to you.

I've had these too for my iugr babies. From memory just like a normal scan but they do extra reading to check the blood flow to the baby. I got regular scans to check baby growth, blood flow and fluid levels. Then induction if necessary.
I hope everything goes well with your baby.

Xo90 · 14/03/2015 08:44

Thank you. I'm a bit nervous about it for some reason. Would they induce me if he stops growing?
They told me to call if I notice reduced movement but he's really active. So that must be a good sign.
I just don't think I'm very good at growing babies Hmm
