Iron levels seem high - anyone have experience of this?

I'm now 13 weeks but at my scan earlier this week my blood results from my 8 week midwife check were reviewed. I was really surprised to see my iron levels being 144! Is this normal? After my first DD was born (emcs) my iron levels dropped to 7.9, and recall my levels being around 20 during my first pregnancy (I think). This sems high, and me being anxious, dr google shows all kinds of horrid things about too high iron levels - including being at risk for gestational diabetes.

I'm going to ring my doctor tomorrow (the surgery is closed this afternoon) but I'm worried. Does anyone know what's normal for iron? I'm struggling to find much about the numbers on google. Thanks.

Make sure you're comparing like with like...I'm pretty sure your 144 is actually 14.4 (if you put it into the same units as your previous 7.9). They can quote the level multiplied by a factor of 10. My hospital now does this so my iron level was 12.8 last pregnancy and this time it's quoted as 110 (so 11 in the old units). Hope that makes sense! (20 does sound high though...)

It'll be 14.4. The point isn't used anymore.

Ah thank you that makes sense. I mistyped the 20 as should have said 13. I couldn't understand how I could go from that to 144! Thanks for the reassurance I have been worrying non stop! X

I'm 19 weeks with DC3 and was diagnosed as anaemic quite early on, with levels around 10. Had my bloods tested again a few weeks after starting iron supplements and when I rang for the results the receptionist told me the levels were now 127, which made me have a right panic until I realised it was likely to be a decimal point issue Smile

I'm sure I remember that my initial blood test when pregnant with DC1 showed my iron at around 14, which is very good. I was going and healthy then ... !
