Iron Levels still falling :(

After 2 weeks of 2 sachets of spa tone a day my iron levels have still dropped from 10.5 to 9.8.

So gutted as I really don't want to take iron tablets - they make me so poorly.

I got an iron transfusion last week as tabs/liquid wasn't helping! Had to spend 6-7 hours in hosp and 3-4 hours of that on drip but it made a big diff

Can you not take a preggo multivitamin or eat spinach with every meal? I'm trying this to avoid iron tablets as I get horribly constipated on them. Hope you find something that works for you

I've started having fruit smoothies packed with spinach in the mornings. Trying to pack in as many greens as possible over the day, and also orange juice when I have something particularly iron rich to help absorb it. I am also trying to avoid the tablets

I'm eating kale at every meal and drinking lots of orange juice.

m2 how low were your levels when they made you have that?

I'm not 100% sure as they didn't tell me but know my haemoglobin level was down to 99 too

With low iron spatone will really not make enough/any difference. I had a major haemorrhage and my blood levels were down to 6 I was given iron infusion plus a transfusion - Dr said spatone wouldn't touch it... Unfortunately you may need to just bite the bullet and go for it with the tablets - or see if you can have a transfusion

If you are drinking tea, try to avoid it as the tanins inhibit iron absorption.

Take a glass of OJ or an ascorbic acid tablet (vit c) when you eat red meat and increase the red meat to 2-3 times per week.

Hope that helps Smile

Thank you, think I'm just going to have to do the tablets.

I've stopped drinking more than one cup of tea a day, so hopefully it isn't that.
