Eating street food?

Hi all, I'm 6 weeks pg and have just got back from a holiday in Hungary. Does anyone think I should be concerned that I ate street food at a food festival? It was a chicken wrap and I stupidly didn't think about the risk of listeria. Is it ok to eat street food generally do you think?

If you had food poisoning you would know about it by now so I wouldn't worry.

I'd be very selective about what I ate and from where (taking into account storage and hygiene facilities). But I think unless you ate the wrap in the last 24hrs, you are probably in the clear one that one (most food poisoning would have shown up by now I think).

Listeria isn't really associated with chicken so you're probably ok from that point of view. Listeria can be in things made from unpasturised milk, as well as some pates and cooked deli meats (tho the latter v low risk). The reason listeria is a particular problem (apologies if you know this) is that it can be symptomless to the mother but have very serious consequences for the baby. I think your main risk from chicken at a street stall would be campylobacter and maybe E. coli. As PP have said, incubation period for these is short so if you feel OK now you're probably fine! Congratulations on the pregnancy :)

Life is too short. If it all appeared hygienic and properly cooked it's no riskier than home cooking.

Thanks everyone. Redlolly - that was my concern that listeria can be symptomless so I wouldn't necessarily know so thanks for your comments. Sian - I'm sure you're right! Only recently got bfp so I'm probably in paranoid phase!

Salmonella is the one you can get from chicken. But if you had, you would have been sick by now.
