Or squeak. I have mice in my kitchen - husband saw one shoot across floor last night and we left humane trap out which is now shut. I assume there's a mouse in there.

Normally I wouldn't be hugely bothered but have read terrifying things about LCMV virus transmission to foetus. The woman doesn't know she has it but can cause terrible problems for baby. And you can catch it by breathing in the mouse area! I know its probably rare but I can't stop feeling freaked out - as if my kitchen is a dangerous place.....any advice???

There was a mouse in my house while I was pregnant with DD. It ran over DH's hand while he was reaching into the bag of dry cat food to feed the cats. I was upstairs when this happened, and was afraid to go downstairs for the rest of the evening (eventually rushed through to get out the door to get dinner out). We never saw any evidence of mice after that; the cats must have dealt with it. DD is fine.

I'm just glad the mouse didn't run over my hand. I'm sure I would have called the OB in hysterics. You would have heard the screams from the UK (I'm in the US).

Wikipedia says that "more than 50 infants with congenital LCMV have been reported worldwide". That's not many, out of a population of 7 billion.

Ah but its 'more than 50' therefore could be 6 billion!Hmm

I think we'd hear a lot more about it and the need to avoid mice during pregnancy if it were a common problem. I suspect most pregnant women for most of recorded history have had at least some contact with mice.

That said, I'd still make DH deal with the mouse in the trap.
