Losing weight in first trimester

Has anybody else lost weight in their first trimester?
I have lost 6lb and I am only 8 weeks pregnant. I haven't vomited at all but my appetite has been smaller than usual.
I gained weight in the first trimester in my 2 previous pregnancies and I am aware that I should gain about 5lb in the first trimester.
I am not dieting and my BMI is well within the normal range. Has anybody else experienced similar? Did you regain it quickly in the 2nd trimester?

Hiya, yes I lost a stone in the first trimester due to pregnancy sickness, I've only recently started putting it back on (23 weeks now) but I'm still being sick hence the slow weight gain. When I saw my mw at 16 weeks she said at that point that as long as I'm not loosing anymore weight it's all good xx

Thanks bustherb. It's reassuring to know that a midwife has said it's okay.

Im 11 weeks and have lost half a stone despite only mild morning sickness. I just don't have much appetite. Im a normal bmi btw.

Im not at all worried as this was the pattern in both my previous pregnancies and both babies were born a good weight 10.5 lbs and 8.8lbs. So baby obviously takes what it needs.

I gained only a stone in weight over the whole pregnancy each time and had no baby weight to lose. I also lost my appetite in the final 6 weeks before birth.

the weight gain recommendations are averages, and it's very common for women to lose weight in 1st trimester due to morning sickness. I didn't actually lose weight, but have not put on any either (21 weeks) and doc has not been concerned.

Hiya, I lost 6lbs in the first trimester due to being repulsed by most food, I wasn't sick either although at 8 weeks there is still time for you as I felt worse between 9-10 weeks (I do hope you are lucky though and it does pass) I have started to gain it back now but fairly slowly. My BMI is high but I would think that as long as you aren't going into 'underweight' territory then I am you are fine. Your appetite will return soon.

I was 6st8 before getting preg I dropped to 6st in my first trimester :( the doctors said any one with a bmi over 18 it's fine to lose weight. Not for me though ugh I always assumed people gained straight away!

I've lost about 11lb from vomiting and nausea over the past four weeks. :(

if your bmi is in range and you feel ok, I'd not worry, I think it's quite common. This is why we have fat stores ! We have evolved to store in times of plenty and live off it in times of need. There are women who puke up till the day they deliver and have 9lb babies.

even if you're not throwing up you're probably being more mindful of what you eat (none of those empty wine calories at the weekend for example!)

I lost 21lb during my pregnancy and didn't put any back on I was size 16 beforehand now I'm a 12-14 baby was a healthy 7lb 4oz born. I didn't have much appetite at the beginning but certainly made up for it at the end. Don't worry about your weight your baby will take everything it needs from you, even if you don't feel like eating much make sure your drinking plenty.

I didn't weigh myself but definitely lost weight throughout my first pregnancy ("me" weight IYSWIM) ie 3 weeks after birth I weighed less than at booking in. I ate reasonably well, no eating for two but I also think that not drinking had an effectBlush, no morning sickness or anything. This time I've put loads on Sad, morning sickness made it worse as I ate loads of white bread and pasta, eating actually made me feel better.

I gained nearly a stone in the first trimester, but haven't gained any more so far (18 weeks now). I think that the guidelines are just vague guides and as long as you aren't getting obese or skeletal it's probably fine.

Thanks everyone for the reassurances. I am still a healthy weight and even if I lose a few more pounds I won't be underweight. I think I was just worried as I didn't lose any weight in my first two pregnancies so it is unusual for me. We have been for a private early reassurance scan today and the heartbeat was strong and everything looked okay so I am reassured that everything is progressing as it should.
I think as others have said - the difference might just be that I haven't had any extra calories from alcohol Blush

Hi, I've only realised this morning after weighing myself that I've also lost weight, about 10 lbs I think. Not had much ms, but smaller appetite. 1st pregnancy so I think I'll mention it to my mw tomorrow. Glad it's not just me though
