Hi, I'm 7 weeks today and have severe constipation pains. I didn't sleep a wink last night it's painful across my entire stomach and can hardly stand up straight. Anyone else ever had it this bad before?

I have this from time to time, it's usually on any one side and relieved when the stuff clears out.

If you've recently started iron containing prenatal vitamins, it maybe worthwhile looking for one without.

I have assumed you eat a high fibre diet. Ensure you are drinking loads of water - warm fluids are usually better. A perfectly safe traditional remedy is psyllium husks - in water. Available on amazon and a component of fancy brands in medical shops.

Other things like prune juice figs, prunes, apricots, never quite worked with me, but you could try.

If that fails, get advice on what meds are suitable. Saying containing senna as an ingredient gives me frightful cramping and I would never have that again.

Al the best, it's not fun, and I hope you recover soon xx

I posted a very similar thread last week. Prune juice was recommended, but thankfully things moved before I got the chance to try it. I'd been drinking apple juice all day as I'd heard that could help.

I feel your pain. I was crying in the loo at work and couldn't sit at my desk properly. Hope things start shifting soon!

Thank you focus, I have been taking pregnecare for 3 weeks and it does contain iron so that might be a cause. I'm glad that I'm not alone with the severity. I have read lots about it being a common symptom but noting about the pains that at times are just incapacitating! I shall try some different vitamins and also maybe some prune juice as lots have said that works well. Did you get this all the way through your pregnancy or just at the start?

Get some lactulose! Only thing that works for me x

Lactulose! I was on iron when pregnant and it really helped. Get it from the GP.

I had terrible constipation from around 6 weeks through to about 15wweeks despite eating a high fibre diet. I found prune juice REALLY effective - if you try it don't drink a huge amount all at once, just have a glass followed by a glass of water and wait half an hour or so to see if anything happens. I chugged a litre of it and then spent three hours shitting through the eye of a needle....

Hi excited, I am only 5-6 weeks into my first ever pregnancyl! It's something that I have suffered from off and in iver the past three or four years, so I have an unfortunate expertise on the matter hehe! Plus constipation runs rife in my family on both sides.

Hot water with a slice of lemon and plenty fresh orange juice tends to work for me
