Guidance on baby clothing in the UK

I was hoping someone might be able to help me, I am looking for good quality, nice fabric all-in-ones for my newborn due in August. I am from Australia and totally clueless as to what are the better brands for babies clothing in the UK. At home we have Pure Baby and Country Road, which make amazing durable and 100% cotton fabrics that don't stretch out of place and are good quality. Can anyone please suggest any brands I should be looking at for excellent quality baby fabrics? Organic cotton is a bonus. Thanks!

I just used stuff from the supermarket and mothercare tbh as they grow out of them so quickly

For organic, you should probably start with brands such as Frugi, Piccalilly, Kite and Pigeon. I have stuff from Frugi and Kite. The quality is very good and I prefer the designs, but they are much more expensive than supermarket and high street clothes. Frugi are bigger sized as they design for cloth nappies.

I did have a lot of supermarket stuff initially, which was wise financially as ds grew like a weed.

I recommend Polarn o Pyret - lovely stuff. All handed down between my 4dcs. Also, marks and spencer are good. I love other scandi brands like sma folk and katvig.

Polarn (or pop) stuff is really cheap on sale. Think there is a mumsnet discount also!

Oh, I've never seen a baby nightie here either!

I had a couple of nice bits from jojomamanbebe and John lewis. Primary used cheap supermarket and matalan clothes though as they grow out of them so quickly, and cover them in sick and poo stains :-S. All my unstained cheapy ones from ds are in good enough condition to be got out for the new baby when it arrives, so I think they are reasonable quality.

Tbh I find the plain white vests from Next very good quality. Do not like mothercare and although I'm not a fan I have friends who like stuff from Boots.

Worth checking out an NCT sale to get it second hand though! Or eBay.

Next baby grows are great and have built in scratch mitts.

Agree that boots are surprisingly good - but sized big so be warned. I live john Lewis clothes but always slightly disappointed by the quality. Al my really nice, organic stuff came from south africa or Australia! there are shops here but ou have to search for them.

Some of the high end department stores will do small selections of the really lively stuff. Expensive but great. I buy all baby gifts from one of those near us.

I think boots stuff is really small, but good quality.
Next, m&s and supermarket stuff used mostly, Ds grows too quickly to put more expensive stuff on him all the time.

I'm in Australia too and think kids clothes are a bit rubbish here. I have a lot from M&S and Next - quality is good, wash well and delivery is cheap. Sizes are a bit different - no 0000, 000 etc, but just go by the weigh guidance. Mothercare is good too but delivery is daylight robbery.

John Lewis do organ ice cotton.

I'm 31w and have been looking for quality-but-reasonably-priced baby wear for months and after being disappointed with Vertbaudet, Boots and H&M's organic range I stumbled across Mothercare's Stars and Dreams range which has a couple of gorgeous velour all in ones that I couldn't resist (not a fan of Mothercare). I got them with free click and collect and have to say they're adorable with lovely detail.

M&S and Next are great. I get most of the clothes second hand from car boot sales. The baby grows and vests come from M&S but a couple of babygrows I had from Next are in their 6th kid and are still in great shape. The M&S babygrows were thrown out after DC2 so if you are planning in more than 2 go with next!

Gap do nice kids stuff soon, and I love little white company. John lewis I find doesn't wear as well, some stuff has gone bobbly

I have quite a few kids bits from aus too. One thing you'll find is that baby clothing is cheaper here.

Oh and Zara! I have some body suits from there that still look good after two babies.
