baby weight predictions - how accurate have they been??

Hi all,

I had my 34 week app today. My last three apps I was measuring big on the bump graph. I asked today for babys weight prediction, if I went full term they suggest 8lbs 6oz and a long baby.

I'm 5ft, husband is 5"6', so both shorties. I was 4lb when born and hubby about 6 lb.

So just for noseyness sake, how accurate have your predictions been?

Twins predicted at 8lb and 7lb....they were 6 1/2 pounds each..Although fair enough...it's harder to tell with twins.

My youngest son was predicted at 7lbs and was 8lbs 11ozs.

So with all of mine, completely out !

I was told by a midwife who measured my bump that my DC1 would be 'approx 8.5 lbs' - he was 10 lbs 2 oz!!

Scanned two days before DD was born and was told 'around albs' - she was
7 lbs 2 oz

So way out, really!

At 34 weeks had a scan which gave baby's size at 6lb 13oz at that moment. Allowing for weight gain of half a pound until term that would have put him at 9lb 13 oz at 40 weeks. He was born at 42 weeks at 9lb 9oz. Given that apparently babies stop putting on weight at term and actually start losing a little when they go overdue, that seems pretty accurate.

With DD a midwife at my last appointment listened to the heartbeat and felt my tummy and predicted "a girl about 7lb." Well she was a girl and she was 6lb 13oz so again pretty good.

I have to say that what they can feel and what the ultrasound can see does depend on how much fat you have round the middle, and how much water you are carrying. Too much of either makes it very difficult to tell. Sorry.

Baby measured 6lb 8oz at 34 week growth scan so they estimated 10lb baby. One consultant said it was rubbish and she expected me to have a baby no bigger than 8lb 8oz. He was born 39+5 weighing 8lb 5oz.
